: 70 Chevelle - Dark Blue Metalic (28) or Silver
dsolomon Sep 15th, 02, 2:24 PM Need some help!
My Chevelle is getting close to its first coat of paint. She left the factory wearing Dark Blue metallic, a white vinyl top and white interior. My problem is that I am not sure if I want to keep her that way.
I want to keep vinyl on the roof and I want SS stripes but I can't settle in on the color combination. The interior is now black so the exterior options are open.
I am torn between Dark Blue with white stripes and black or white vinyl.
-or-
Silver with black vinyl and black stripes.
Anyone have any pics that they could email me that would help me decide? I'd sure appreciate it.

While I like my combo I also really like the Cortez Silver and black. I helped a friend restore one with that combo. I would have a real hard time chosing.
I'm not helping much am I??

I like blue and white! It looks sharp!

LBuechler Sep 16th, 02, 11:56 PM I vote back to original. Blue with white looks great, people what to change to that all the time. Silver is usually my #1 choice after original, along with Shadow Gray a close second. It's funny; it seems people always want a different color than what they have. JMO...

Midnight Marauder Sep 19th, 02, 2:25 PM I forsee Cortez Silver eventually becoming what people see Red to be...mainly, too damn common.
Everybody and their mama seems to be painting their car Cortez Silver. I see them everywhere, on the street, here, in mags, at shows, etc. It looks great, but keep in mind you'll be pulling up to a car with the exact same paint scheme more often as time go's on.
Everytime I hear someone thats wants to get away form their current paint scheme its always "im gonna go cortez with black stripes"
Is it just me or what?
Im goin hot pink with a purple metal flake and pastel racing stripes on lime green interior....for originality purposes. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

dale3 Sep 19th, 02, 3:15 PM I painted mine three years ago because that is what I had in high school with the cragars. I had the only one around here at the time and everyone told me it was ugly. I'm not a jump on the bandwagon type, I do what I like and want!!!
Mike O'H Sep 19th, 02, 5:18 PM ...god, I hope Cortez Silver isn't what "everbody's going to". I looked far and wide for 6+ years for just the right car: either a light blue or a silver '69 L78. At the time, there weren't many [that I found anyway] that were available to be had in good shape. I finally found it: better than I could have expected....Cortez Silver WITH a blue interior! ...best of both colors!
I run around in the Southeast [N. Alabama, GA, Tenn] and still don't see many [and only 1 other w blue int.]. I sure hope it doesn't become the Red of the new century ;)
...but Dan, Silver sure is a great color!!!

Dale, it wasnt a shot dude. Your car is damn sweet and I like the paint scheme. Hope I didnt offend you as it wasnt my intention. Besides that, check my sig broham, people knock the scheme all the time but alas, they're usually rolling in stock 6 bangers and a PG backing it up. And no, I didnt paint it that color either. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif Im all for the do what chya like how ya like.
Just pointing out that I believe before too long their will be more cortez cars rolling around than red. At which time, my paint scheme will be back in style. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Look up. The second post, right under your intial post. Click on Stev S's sig. Fathom Blue 28.
dsolomon Sep 19th, 02, 10:27 PM I did... I was hoping to get something a little clearer. The ones that dale3 shared worked out great. A little fine line black marker and wa-la... a vinyl top.
J70Chev Sep 20th, 02, 1:15 PM You want fathom blue.
click on the link in my sig file for the Blown Alky car.
but please it's an very very ugly color, and most people tell me it looks like crap. You'll probably get alot of negative comments if you paint your car Fathom blue, so try Red or Silver http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I'm probably going to repaint my current project to match my blown car, so I have twin Fathom blue 70's with black stripes.

71ChevelleCoupeQuestions Sep 20th, 02, 5:38 PM I'm restoring my '71 Chevelle Coupe right now. It just got squirted with dark blue along with the white stripes. It's a very sharpe look. One of my buddies tried to talk me into red with black stripes. I couldn't really even think of another color I wanted to put on it. I was brought up around my uncles '70 SS blue & white combo (with black vinyl).....It's a clean & classic look. Either way, you'll have yourself a great ride there. Oh yeah......Personally I think I'd stick to black vinyl (for the same reason as my choise of colors)
