Hi all, I'm a fresh new member I'm going to look at a Chevelle this week.
I read on another website how to decode the VIN numbers and everything.
I wanted to ask you [btw. I searched this website but could not find anything], where the plates for the VIN, engine and transmission are located.

I would appreciate pictures if you could, pictures speak a 1000 words.

Best Regards

The year of the car would help, in 64 thru I think 67, the VIN plate was on the the A pillar after you opened the door, from 68 and later years it is visible thru the Windshield on the drivers side. Before you purchase this or any other car, post the VIN numbers and the info from the cowl plate here in the Tag Team forum for more info to have during the purchase. Good luck in your search for just the right Chevelle. :)

There are not VIN plates on the engine or trans. All they did was hand stamped a derivative of the VIN

It contains the GM Division, year, final assembly plant and last 6 sequence digits of the VIN

Example prior to 1968
7N123456
1968 forward
17N123456

Engine block is on right front block at face of head or on rough casting flange up from oil filter.

Trans, one drivers side, toward front.
