The rear bumper on my 71SS has small rust spots. I posted a previous post asking how to get rid of these very small rust spots (no bigger than a pinprick). All recommended solutions (0000 steelwool soaked in WD40 or chrome cleaner, various chrome cleaners, SOS pads, etc) failed to remove these small spots. I must replace the bumper. Is the best thing to do to buy a new one or should this one be rechromed? If I buy a new one will someone take the old one as a core replacement? Best place to buy a bumper? Any advice is appreciated.

How good does your current bumper fit? If it fits good and has no damage I would rechrome it and that way you know the bumper will fit good, you could get a new bumper and the fit of it could be bad. For a good place to rechrome your bumper I would go with Tri-city plating they are in Elizabethton,TN there number is 1-800-251-7536. I got my bumpers from them and they are show quality all the way and they have a lifetime warranty on them (can't beat that) and I know of quite a few people who have dealt with them and are very satisfied with the quality of there work.

I appreciate the response. My bumper fits good now. Can you tell me how long they take to do this work and a ballpark cost? Thanks.

I don't really have an idea on a turn around time since I bought new bumpers from them, I seem to remember the price for them was around $280.00 each. It might be a little less since you have your own bumper and I bought one of theres so they probally had a slight mark up to include the bumper and them plating it.
