I have a 1970 chevelle ss that I am going to have painted. I am unsure of what kind of paint to have the body shop use, how many base coats are good and how many clear coats to have them put on the car. I want this to come out nicely, as I have spent a lot on the interior, engine etc. If anyone can give me some advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If you are going back with a factory color,I would have them use a basecoat/clearcoat system. It needs to be a good quality of paint brand(Dupont,PPG,Sikkens)You get what you pay for in paint.Beaware though all these paint companies offer a cheaper line also:Dupont-Nason,PPG-Omni,Sikkens-U-Tech.So ask excatly which brand they use.If any body work has been done or sanded to metal it will have to have 2-3 coats primer,2 coats of sealer,at least 3 coats base and clear.
