ebay paints (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2488935268&category=63702)
Just curious how much difference could there really be in base coat materials? As long as the clear coat holds up wouldn't this base work as well as anybody elses?

Junk. You still need to buy the activator, thats about $40 and a gallon of enamel reducer, about $20. That is not basecoat,so you dont clear it. Its single stage enamel. Trust me,you don't want to spray a single stage metallic color unless you are a very experienced painter. You would be better off going to a local paint supply house and having them set you up with name brand economy line of paint, like Duponts Nason(excellent), Akzo Nobels U-tech(excellent) or PPG's Omni(not so great but better than that Ebay stuff) You could even buy some Kirker or Coventry for around $50 a gallon depending on your color choice. See what your local jobber sells.

Dennis, the quality of the basecoat usually is dependant on how well it covers and spray quality. I spent the extra to get better quality material, and the advantage to that was I used less overall material.
My 67 truck shortbed fleetside only used 3 quarts of base, but I did not spray the inside of the bed. I still have over 1 quart of sprayable material left too.
