I am looking to put my console in my 71 and i was wondering where the one mounting bracket is placed? I believe its towards the back of the console. How far is it from something that i can measure from ie a place on the back seat or from the firewall? Also how do you get the carpet to look nice after you cut it to put the console in? Thanks a lot guys.

My 70 chevelle originally came with a console but I don't have one now, the bracket is still in the car I can get you a measurement if youd like I'm pretty sure the 70 and 71 should be the same. Just tell me where you want the measurement from Jim

Thanks. Probably from the easiest place to get an accurate measurement. Im not quite sure where to measure from. A guy told me a while ago but this was way before i was ready to put in my console and i have since forgot where the bracket (i know my 71 has a single bracket i dunno about your 70) goes. Thanks a lot.

actually if yu do a search in the forum there is a post that somebody had the exact same question, they measured from where the back seat pan bends down and I think it said 17 or 17.5 inches Jim

Thanks I think I posted that a while ago asking how far it is supposed to be. I just couldnt find it again. Im just trying to find out if you put the console directly over the carpet and just cut out around the shifter and the mounting bracket in the back or if you cut all the carpet out from under the console. Thanks a lot.

Just cut around the shifter and bracket, dont cut out everything under the console, the console is made to set on the carpet, it will look funny. Not to mention, how would you get your carpet to stay in place over the hump if you cut it out? 17.5 inches from the back seat pan should work, the bracket is two inches wide so you have a little room to play with....
