: Help with power steering bracket

I did a search, but could not find the answer. I have a 350 block in a 70 Chevelle. It has power steering and A/C. The power steering pump mounts to the long water pump. I have another bracket that the adjustable bracket mounts to. Where does this bracket mount to the block? I tried to mount it to the first manifold bolt, but that doesn't put the bracket near the PS pump. Please don't tell me to look at the assembly manual, I don't have one for a 70, only the 68 which is totally different. Any verbal explanations will be helpful. BTW, I have AFR 195 heads, and stock exhaust manifolds. The compressor bracket bolted right up to the front of the head. Does the bracket somehow mount to the head?

TIA, Kevin

If it's like my 69, it attaches to one of the motor mount bolts, the front lower one I think. It's definitely the motor mount though.

on my 70 small block car that bracket runs from the first manifold bolt down to the front upper motor mount bolt. the end that has the bolt hole sort of offset on a tab sticking out the side goes up. If you have stock manifolds it should fit. I have headers so I had to make a spacer to make up the extra space.

If it doesn't fit at all see if you can post a pic of it, we'll verify it's the right one for that spot.

Mike, I think GM changed PS brackets in 70.

yes, 70 and later have the long water pump and different brackets from 69 and earlier.

One of my small block Malibus is just like Tom describes. I'm using headers, so I had to make a spacer to make up for not having the original manifolds. Scot

My 69 with 350 had the original engine, manifolds, accessories and brackets when I bought it. It is a long water pump, and one of the bolts on the power steering bracket in question goes to the motor mount, the other to the front exhaust manifold bolt. I had to make up a spacer as described above when I switched to headers. I'm not saying they didn't change brackets for 70, I wouldn't know, but 69's with small blocks have long water pumps.

Guys,
The water pump (long), alternator and air compressor (they switched sides) all changed in 69. Consequently, the PS pump mounting changed also.

Kevin,
Tom Mobley has correctly described everything for a lower PS bracket with a SB. The FORWARD ex manifold bolt and the FORWARD motor mount bolt are used to attach the bracket. If you have a manifold, just use the bolt. If you have headers, you must use a spacer (you can use a length of small pipe, or a bunch of washers). For attachment of the lower part of the bracket, the motor mount goes against the block first, then the brackets fits onto the motor mount. That's all there is to it.
