Can anyone recommend a good upholstery shop in the bay area? Preferably around San Jose. I want to have my front and rear seats redone.

Thanks,

Tim

I went to Burke's Upholstery shop in Morgan Hill (was recommended to me and I live there) fo a quote for my son's 66 Nova. They wanted $800 to reupholster the front and back seats (front split-back bench) and we already purchased the seat covers (PUI).

I proceeded to strip the seats and reupholster them myself. In about 3 nights work, help form my son and a few hundred hog rings they were done.

If you have the time and ambition and aren't looking for concourse seats - what you can do yourself will amaze you... and cost WAY less...

When you redid the rear seat, did you add new foam, burlap etc? If so, where did you get your supplies.

That is what I had done originally, just a couple years ago. I recovered my rear seat myself no new foam, and had the fronts put on at a shop (which is now gone) with new foam. The drivers seat now has torn apart at the stitching on the seat bottom. This makes me wonder of the quality of the reproduction seat covers. I am hoping that a seat cover that is custom made may have better stitching and hold up to wear better.

The interior looks great in that car. It has a color similar to mine. I always like white interiors, they just look cool.

Tim,

Yes, yes & yes.. Stripped everything off the seat and cleaned it up. Replaced the vapor barrier, burlap & softened the edges with durapad (kind of a jute padding). Added the foam (after shaping and cutting it) then wrapped the foam to the seat with a few layers of cotton batting padding. Now comes the seat covers and hog ties... I got most of the materials at LSI Upholstery in San Jose on Lincoln Street - unfortunately it's not open to the public - but I know someone who got me on her account so I can walk in.

PUI makes most of the reproduction seat covers, unless you had them custom made. I also know someone who does custom work in the San Jose area - though a friend of mine.

interior... The camera makes it look white (you're not the first to think this either). It's a light tan called fawn. Original color for the 66 Nova.

I had T & T Auto Trim install a headliner and recover front and back seats about 15 years ago and they did a great job. I supplied the parts. Think they are still in business - small shop off The Alameda.
