: The utmost respect to professional bodymen.....
drums&cars Mar 14th, 05, 1:58 AM I have never done anything so tiring, frustrating, and not fun than replacing a quarter panel. I've never done any major panel replacement before, so I was flying by the seat of my pants and what I've learned on TC. Let's just say.....it didn't come out as good as I wanted it :( . It's done, I'm glad it's over, and I will not try this again until I have the right parts(I've learned reproduction parts REALLY suck), am not using the chevelle as a daily driver(BIIIG mistake), and have mustered up enough confidence to do it again.
:beers: to those who work in this field(and to those who know what they're doing with sheetmetal).
MARTINSR Mar 14th, 05, 10:07 AM Trevor, I have to tell you guy, don't beat yourself up over this. I have been hanging quarters for 25 or so years, a bad repro would kick me in the teeth too! Even from one brand OEM to another there is a big difference. A Mercedes quarter will fit PERFECT the first trial fit, they are amazing. A 2004 Camaro is a whole different story, it requires a lot of fitting time. The 72 Dodge repro quarter I helped on of the guys with was a nightmare. Heck, even bolt on parts, you have to re-engineer most repro parts to make them look right.
I am not complaining, God bless those repro parts, but they are usually far from perfect.
No, pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

dittoz Mar 14th, 05, 12:12 PM We're in the midst of doing one of those 1/4 replacement jobs.
Other than cutting in the worst possible spot (ON the body line!), our job wasn't too bad and the Dynacorn repop actually fit pretty well.
Still, I can see where it'd be a royal PITA if that panel didn't fit well!

Yeah....I know I did a lot of hard work that actually didn't turn out THAT bad and my MIG welding skill got 10x better......just alot of dumb mistakes and things I should have planned for is the reason I'm kinda bumed.
Oh well.....next up on the things to do list is putting on a good rear suspension .
GBecker Mar 15th, 05, 2:18 PM Hang in there, I don't know anyone who has hung a quater perfect the first time. It takes practice, and lots of it. Hanging a quarter is one of those things that you can only learn by doing. We all started where you are and no one can claim that it went smooth the first time. But, if it went too smooth everyone would be doing it. And wouldn't be paying us.
