When I was installing new full GM quarters, up on the sail panel after removing the factory lead, I found the panel was spot welded in place. My question is, do you spot weld the new panel in place, or lay continuous spot weld until it is one long bead? Thanks for your help.

IMHO I would plug/spot weld it just like they did.

If you are talking any exterior seam, I would weld it continously. You will probably not be using lead to fill it and plastic filler won't properly fill over a spot welded joint. It will hold for a while but it will eventually crack or break through from the back side.

On sail panels and quarters you MUST stitch weld them on. If you don't know what that is, find a shop or info on it. The best I can describe it is one or two small tack welds in a spot then move to another and repeat untill the whole quarter is welded. failure to do this will warp the panel beyond repair, or close to.

I would tack the panel in place in several spots, then run beads about one inch long alternating areas of the panel that you are working on until the whole length of the joint is welded.
