Doing a full body off restoration on a 68 convertible. Different doors, hood, new fenders. Finally got everything looking pretty close except the rear of the hood sticks up about 1/16" to 1/8". Not too bad, but not correct. I've spent around 20 hrs on just the front section, shimmed this, shimmed that. I've seen alot of cars that the hood stick up in the rear 1/2". Not acceptable. Seems that I shouldn't have to elongate the hinge to fender slots, but thats about the only thing left I can think of to get some more adjustment to make it look right. Anyone ever have to finally resort to this to make it sit correct? Any opinions?

Usually this is an adjustment issue. Try raising the front of the hinge, and keeping the back of the hinge lowered. This will usually bring the rear of the hood down. I had the same problem till I did this.

Paul, to lower the rear of the hood you shim the between the hood and hinge at the front bolt. On the hinge to fender loosen the bolts and open the hood all the way pushing it it up to the sky, if this doesn't lower the hood enough, then shim the front bolt on the hood to hinge. I have never seen a GM hood that wouldn't fit easily like this with just a 1/16" shim. Good luck!
