kind of a dumb question but do you like to drive with all 4 headlights on or just the two, I personally like all 4.

It depends if there's oncoming traffic or not. You don't go around blinding people, do you? ;)

All 4 = High Beams.

I wanted to convert mine to have all 4 light both hi and low beams...

But then I figured that even if the lights aren't blinding people, most will still think I have the high-beams on and will flash me... Might not be good...

you could re-aim your high beams to be lower.
also, cops like to pull you over and give the field sobriety checks when you have all four on.

david Or just buy better lights, run relays or both.

Dunno why one would opt for running highbeams all the time when you can bump up the output, dramatically, on both low beams and high beams either stocker or buying new improved light systems. Perhaps to retain originality, I guess, but in the name of vision and seeing the road better originality, for me, goes out the window just like manual 4 wheel drum brakes

Why would it matter to you, you can't see them on anyway? Or are you just talking about at night?
If not enough light is the problem.
I replaced all my bubs with halogens.
Made a world of difference. High beams now are
nice and bright. Actually better than my 2001 Silverado. Someone there got the bright idea
(get it?) to only allow either the highs or the lows on, but not both. I discovered if I hold the dimer lever half way inbetween, I can have both on. Problem is, you have to hold it all the time.

SS_Dave....go to www.summitracing.com. (http://www.summitracing.com.) They have a converter to have all four lights on at the same time on your Silverado. Not very expensive either. I'm planning on getting one for my '95 with my next order.

The setup will not work my 99 burb is what I was told. It did work on my 91 burb.

Dan,

If you're after a certain look with all four lights then go for what has been mentioned here.

If you're after more light from your regular beams, (because they seem dim compared to todays cars on the road) then check out this link within this website. Scroll down to coppertop's posting and read on.

If your 68 (I assume it's your 68 we're talking about here) has the original front lamp wiring harness, it's very oxidized by now and creating a lot of resistance. This in turn causes a voltage drop across the contacts of all of the crimps and connectors which in turn leaves less available voltage at the headlights. Thoroughly clean every single contact in the headlamp circuit and replace all of the crimps with new crimps on re-stripped wires. Or do what I did and just go for a new forward lamp harness.

Either way good luck.

Sam,

Thanks for the link.
I'm gonna put the relays in even with the
halogens. Should be Kick Butt!

Thanks for the link SecndChncSS.
I'll check it out.
I do have the plow package on the truck and that
gave me a button on the dash that controls a relay up front for plow lights. I could just run some wire to the low beams and hit the button.
That would leave them on all the time and then kick in the highs with my dimmer lever.

Dunno why one would opt for running highbeams all the time when you can bump up the output, dramatically, on both low beams and high beams either stocker or buying new improved light systems. I'd like 4 LOW beams to help light the roadside better. Rather than 2 lights with a limited coverage, the 4 bulbs could fan out more, without being aimed high...

I already run relays, not only to help the output, but to allow brighter bulbs in the future (higher amp draw so heavier wiring). I currently run sealed beam Halogen replacements, but plan on going to lights with replaceable bulbs...

Notice how one of the new Lexus or Infinity has a light that turns (like the old Tucker)? Well I'd like low beams that light the road side a little more too...

I used to run some Illegal motorcycle bulbs (non-DOT), High Beam only, on my old Chevelle... They were so bright that they could only be used a few minutes at a time (no relays used back then). They really lit up the road...

Have to find a way to use dual bulbs in the highs to you could run all four on low but when high beam switch was hit, would have the dual purpose bulb in the high spot switch to highbeam output.

I would like to run silverstars AND run relays in mine AND work on dual purpose bulbs in the highbeam spot. Would be cool to have four lows and then 2 lows / 2 highs when the switch was hit. Will cross that bridge when I get to it since, well, I dont even have a front end on the car and its all torn apart. :D
