Welcoming comments on Sanderson shortie headers for BB '70 SS. I assume this to be a compromise in performace between stock cast iron and full length? Would clearance / heat issues be reduced? They would look better than stock ( thinking ceramic), and the eng. - 402/350ish hp ? w/ 400TH, is fairly mild, w/ Crane 375 HP equiv. cam and Crane solid lifters w/polylocks, Holley 650 sb on stk intake, X pipe thru Dynomax race muffs.

Sanderson Coated headers are among the top 2-3 best looking headers I have seen. Not sure how they perform. I went with Dynomax to save some money and although I am happy with them for what I paid, I had to turn back at least 5 (no kidding) shipments of them before I got a set that didn't have a bunch of imperfections. I finally had to make a compromise on a few slight imperfections. Then I dinked them in one spot during installation anyway. I don't think you'd have the same challenges with Sanderson. I hope the above doesn't constitute bashing.....I don't mean it to be. Just the facts. smile.gif

I had those shorties on a 72 elco with a 496. The headers went in great, but the problem I had was with the driver's side and the way that it's angled toward the center of the car making the exhaust job a PITA. The collector was only about one inch from the pan and pointed at about 5 o'clock towards the pan! I like the C7 full length headers and would only advise the BB3 if you are a skilled exhaust person.

I ran a pair of those on my 68 El Camino with a very healthy 468" & 700R4. The driver side hook-up made us scratch our heads a little but we got it hooked up to my 3" headpipes. Something not mentioned is they don't use a three-point flange like everyone else,but kind of a ball/socket arrangement which is very nice.
Ground clearance with these headers is exceptional and I couldn't tell any horsepower loss over the Hooker Comps I had been running.
I would run them again.

I had a pair of sanderson SBC shorty headers on my 70 elky.. e-mail me for details- but in short I wouldn't spend the extra $$ on them.

Why not post the details on here,Ben,so everyone can get the input?

Yea Ben, C'mon, post them darn details.

Oh, J.A. Mike, I'd probably have my little muff shop (awesome guys) to mount and route to existing exhaust.

One more thing.....I really don't think that the BB3 compromises much, if anything, as far as performance difference between stock exhaust and full length headers, especially on a 402. Like I said, I was running a pretty beefy 496 and it breathed just fine.

Mike;
I'd have to agree especially with a healthy exhaust setup.
