Car: 1968 Chevelle Malibu
First to start with I been looking for several parts and cant seem to find them so Im guessing my best bet is a savage yard?
Vent window is missing the piece that connects the window to the frame. looks like a T
Also cant seem to find a dash for a 68'

If I swap the 307 with a 350. Which parts can swap over, and would I need new tran?
Front or Rear disc brakes?

68 is a tough year, have one myself.Transmission think will move over.Brackets don't know,do you a power steering?Think you will be alright there,or want to get if your going to a 350.There is a stock front disc you can get or the aftermarket if you want to put on back to.Do you need a whole dash or just the bezel part?Seen some bezels in our classifieds.Believe there is a custom style dash made but you won't find a stock in any catalog.Window part should be in the ground up one,if its what i think it is.

The swap from 307 to 350 is pretty straight foward. All the accesories (water pump, pulleys, fuel pump, oil pan[might not if it is a 86 and newer 350], valve covers[same as oil pan], intake manifold. Pretty much everything swaps over.

If you stick with the original motor mounts and matching frame mounts, you should have no problem.

If you need to replace motor mounts(if broken or damaged), but not frame mounts, be SURE to ask for 307 mounts. They ARE different, and 350 ones won't match quite right.

Probably won't have to replace the frame mounts.

(frame mount = the piece of metal that the motor mounts sit on)

The transmission will bolt right up.

Front disks are easier to do. A direct swap would be disc brakes from 64-72 A-bodies (Chevelle, El Camino, Monte Carlo, GTO, Skylark, GS, 442, Cutlass, etc), 68-74 Nova/Ventura/Omega, 67-?? Camaro/Firebird. Be sure to get ALL the parts required for the swap from the donor car. If you don't know what you need, ask in the Brakes and Suspensions forum.

Or you could buy brand new disc brake conversion kits from Ground Up, OPG, Year One and many other reproduction parts suppliers.

Rear discs are little more tricky. Run a search in the "Brakes and Suspension" forum.

Don't know about the rest of the parts you need.

I highly advise becoming a paying member of the site, there are MANY advantages and it makes finding certain parts a whole lot easier.

Good luck with your Malibu.

AC brackets should be alright.little ifee on the alternator.you will want to get a more blade fan.Shroud should be alright and the water pump. You will want a short, for the 68 gives the alternator on the drivers side with the power steering.AC on the right.Do a flow test on radiator if don't know how old.I would want a 3 core one on a 350,and like the reg. fan instead of the electric one, but thats your choice.

Kep't the same size motor in mine just newer.Only problem had i say was flow and pressure change. The water pump started to leak, and the transmission ended up needing to be rebuilt don't know how long since was worked on.It's a t400 ran about $800 to get pulled and rebuilt with a trans. cooler added.Motor was out for about 3 months before found one the builder would mess with. Its a 396,350 alot easier to find.Would have liked it to be a 4 bolt, but not going to get to radical with it.You might want a 4 bolt 350,i say if you go over 400 hp, alot others say can take up to 600.

there is quite a few 68 in are classifieds, good prices. As far as the dash lenses,True-Connections is the only place I have found that stock them. The individual bezels can be found anywhere, them or ground up carry them. There a good price for the dash with gauges in texas, you would probablly have to change your harness for it,yours is probably for lights.Good idea anyway if its a original harness.Stuff gets pretty brittle.I have a extra indicator box and ash tray if you cant find it for a column shift automatic.

I'd say watch eBay for the hard to find parts (assuming you can't find them in the classified section).

I put a 350 in my '68 307 Malibu. Guys are right about the Short water pump. Motor FRAME mounts work fine with the 350 motor mounts. I put a TH350 tranny, which wasn't available in 68, so I can't help you there. I can say that it dropped right in and bolted up nice. I have some odd parts, so EM me if you need something!

Hey Blairf, I noticed your from Pheonix az If you can't find parts for your '68 locally have you tried down here in tucson? I'm sure Charlie at Charlies auto and truck salvaage can help you he specializes in GM A bodies. Or call Jules over at AZ desert specialties. Both are kind of proud of their parts and are priced accordingly but you can probably get everything you need from these two places. Jim
