Any one ever change these bushings? I have a 72 and it needs bushings, least that's what I thibk anyway if it's like other doors. Anyone know of a source. While on the subject of the tailgate. Anyone get the rust at the bottom? And what cure did you use, weld in a new piece, or what.

which bushing? bottom left pivot point? i have not replaced it, but be care full of that big tortion spring under the tailgate. if the tail gat is rusted you have to fix it like anyother rusted door or find a rust free one (good luck).
you could buy the el camino tailgate skin and cut the lower half and weld it in if its that bad. got any pics?

Back to this again. Upon further examination, it appears it is a roller that is used when opening tailgate as a swinggate. It is the bottom left roller. I can't find one, so I am thinking about getting a steel dowel from lowes/depot that is the same diameter or close enough and drilling a hole the diameter of the pin. The dowel metal is probably softer than whats there, but it probably will last for awhile. If anyone has any other ideas on this subject I am open to suggestions?

i would try looking a little longer befor doing that. dowl pins can be made from very hard steel and you might not be able to drill it.

Well the roller was worn, but after using the steel dowel to make one, I still had some of the problem. The majority of the problem is in the upper tailgate latch, the part that latches to the upper roller. i have not did anything with it yet. I did try using a torch on it and heating the metal to try and bend it back, but no significant change. It's just wore out, when i become more energetic I may attemt to fabricate one.
