just picked up a 66 4dr and I am really anxious to get it up and running. my plans are to put a 406 sbc in it get the ac up and running again and put a th 350 in it. I have been thinking about making it capable of towing around one of the other cars. is the frame up to the task? are there hitches available or will I need to make my own? thanks

i would do it. others may not. i think u-haul can custome fit class 3 hitches to anything. get a car trailer with dual axles and electric brakes and load the cars your towing so the tung weight is ballanced and you should be fine. the body of you 4 door will assist the frame in load sharing and i think you would be fine. but i dont know if their ar laws that would prevent you from doing it legaly. i would look into it. i tow with my 70 chevelle wagon and it had no problems towing other wagons and elkys. and i didnot even have trailer brakes. but now i do.

Upgrade Brakes and cooling system on the wagon first. Then start looking at suspension and springs.

Ed,
I had the same idea for my wagon, I found a hitch company that would build a custom class III receiver hitch. I'll look for it and let you know. It was about 250 shipped, weld on only.

ed is talking about towing with a 4 door not a wagon. i have a custome made class 3 hitch for my 70 wagon and it is a bolt on. it works great. it hangs down i bit lower then i would like but it works. i'm thinking of making it a little better and fabricating a few for sale. any investors?

yeah I am using a 4dr not the wagon. I am going to try and build my own hitch and go with a weight distrubution type mounting system, it should work good if the plans in my head can come out on the steel. I will let you know how I make out

I might be interested in a bolt on class 2 or class 3 type hitch for a 1967 El Camino -

I purchased a U-haul hitch that was a bolt on, custom made for about $125.00. It is only a Class II but I only pull trailers with boats, 4-wheelers and the like.
