I'm new to this but just bought a 64 4dr Wagon
283 Factory 4barrel dual exhaust 43000 miles
Mechanically sound Interior Chrome and mouldings complete
Bone Stock
But it has West Coast Fever (RUSTY)
What is it like to get body parts for these?
How do i confirm if #s match (where on block?)
Thanks for replys

Welcome aboard. The Numbers you're looking for are on the passenger side of the block on the exposed about 1/2" of block deck immediately in front of the head. There are actually 2 sets of numbers...one is a date and application code that will tell you where & when the motor was assembled and what type of vehicle and accessories (ie: transmission type, carburetion), I'm pretty sure there's a number cruncher section to this forum, look for it or there are a ton of books some of which I have...the second number is the easiest to determine "numbers matching" because it should match the last 6 or 7 numbers on your vehicles VIN. In Vette land the VIN is stamped onto all kinds of parts...I'm not sure about the chevelle line.
Regardless, sounds like a cool ride...you've got something special if it is "numbers matching", but don't let it spoil your fun if it's just a cool, solid, low mileage, but molested wagon. ;)

Welcome to a place where you will get all kinds of information. Your 64 wagon is pretty unique. The front fenders and hood will interchange with any 64 sedan, coupe or Elcamino. The rest of the body is another story. The doors will interchange with 4 door sedans, but the rear rockers and fenders are unique. You will have to do some research to find if the sheet metal parts you need would be interchangable with other 64/65 Chevelle models. A good source for sheet metal is Goodmark. Some of the mouldings such as the rockers and rear wheel opening mouldings will interchange with the El Camino. Dash and electrical except for the wiring harness that runs from the front to the rear of the car can be interchanged with any 64 model. Rear tail lights and bumpers will switch with an El Camino. Most trim parts and some interior parts are being reproduced. You can try our sponsor, Ground Up, YearOne.com, or Original Parts Group for a lot of repro stuff. Good luck and enjoy the ride!
