I was at the super chevy show in memphis yesterday and was looking over a beautiful red 69 wagon. I noticed the rear bumper had a cut out and it looked liked it hinged on the right side. The owner was'nt around to ask about it and I didnt dare touch it. what is that for? Just curious as the wagons are really starting to get into my blood. thanks

The wagon you were looking at was equipped with the "dual action" tailgate. The cutout comes out with the tailgate when you open it like a door to reveal a step to help the kids gain entry to the third row seating. When you open the tailgate like a pickup it retracts up inside (hense the hinge). Another cool feature was the power window switch you may have noticed on the interior side panel. This is so the kids can put the window down, but the only way the window can be raised is from the drivers switch on the dash, or the key switch on the outside of the tailgate. Cool huh?
