: Who has what kind of wagons?
Rich-L79 Mar 23rd, 04, 7:06 PM I suspect many TC folks have wagons that I don't know about. Let's start a thread to learn who all has a wagon and what you have.
**I own a 1965 2-door wagon. It is a basketcase project. In the end it will have 4-wheel disc brakes, an El Camino frame, a built 427ci, 4- or 5-speed and a 12-bolt posi. Check out the link in my signature line if you want to see the project thus far.
cky12k Mar 23rd, 04, 7:16 PM I just got a 71 4 door wagon, that has a 350 from a 70 Vette and 700r4 tranny, when done will be red with limo tinted windows, trying to get pics smile.gif

NELANDJZM Mar 23rd, 04, 11:21 PM I bought a 70 concours about 2 years ago and let it sit until i was done with my astro blue 70ss396. The ss has been done for about 9 months now, and this past november i started a full frame-off on the wagon. When its done it will be black with white SS stripes, big block, bench seat 4spd 373 12 bolt posi, black interior. I hope.
uffdahappens Mar 24th, 04, 1:12 AM I have a 68 Nomad with 34000 original miles. It was sitting out in a field in New Mexico for 20 years. Light surface rust here and there, with a few dings. Paid the man $1200 and drove it on to the trailer. I have alot of plans for it, but I have to build my wife's 1950 Studebaker pickup first. I figured for $1200, I couldn't pass it up.
CranberryRed Mar 24th, 04, 1:29 AM I have an all original 70's concours 6 cyl, only option is an AM 8 track and . . .well . . .that's it for options.

68Nomad Mar 25th, 04, 8:14 PM 327/275 PG.
Lots of rust im considering finding another one and using my current baby for parts, as it stands i need new floors throughout, 1/2 a front clip and rear quarters. Oh and a tailgate. :( I love her to death but in the end it may be more practicle either to get another one, or sell it and try and find a coupe. Pics in sig i think....
Uffdahappens: Quite a steal, i wish i could find sterling examples likt that in my neck of the woods.
Luuuke Mar 26th, 04, 3:13 AM tongue.gif I'm the proud o/b of a '70 greenbriar. It's HOC's purple on the longroof and hood and pearl essence shark on the side. SS/dash, power buckets from '91 vette. no third seat though, needed roon for the batt/cell in the cargo space. It's got a lovely 3:55-12bolt  which take it's power from a M-22-rock krusher  tranferred through the centenforce clutch  to a very tallented 496 chevrolet. :D
sswagon70 Mar 26th, 04, 10:24 AM I have a '70 Concours 'project', 350/350. Still in primer, pictured in phtoto section of wagon section. hoping to make a 'SS' clone wagon out of it. If anyone needs seats, I have some that I am desperately trying to unload (cheap). Just e-mail shusak@vbg.org
Cam Sweet Mar 26th, 04, 4:19 PM 64 2dr here, pretty rough. Next in line, right after the 64 EL Camino, 63 NovaSS for the gf, an acre of land, a house, a job, a gf.........

TimC Mar 26th, 04, 4:45 PM No wagon yet.
I've been looking for a 68 - 72 wagon with a big block for awhile.
My last wagon was a 70 Pontiac Executive, 455, TH400. We gutted that one to swap the powertrain into a 66 Tempest.
64 Pete Mar 26th, 04, 6:06 PM 64 two door wagon.
Not bad shape. Bought around '90.
Saw some real horror stories here in Pennsylvania.
Was running a 250 six and 4 speed.
Next comes a 292 and T-350.
4 barrel, cam, headers, etc.
Going to be confined to the strip for a while.
johnyac Mar 26th, 04, 7:53 PM 1965 300 2dr wagon. Also a major project but worth the time to date.
Was the original 230 w three on the tree.
Now 250 w/350 trans.
Eventually I would like to install the original six back into it with a 700r4. Or if ever found "cheap" a year correct 1965 327.
http://home.att.net/~johnyac/24A.jpg
If anyone needs help building the rear window post I made a set for mine. check out these two links:
Before (http://home.att.net/~johnyac/passenger.jpg)
After 1 (http://home.att.net/~johnyac/newpillar1.jpg) After with primer (http://home.att.net/~johnyac/findrvr.jpg)

The tailgate is going need a new skin, I guess thats a typical rust out area from the drain holes being blocked.I got a brand new set of cragars and BF radial Ta tires, off eBay.I'll get some pictures and post them soon.

ACES1 Apr 6th, 04, 11:34 AM Gotta '72 Nomad that's been given the SS treatment, plus EFI'd 502, richmond 5-speed and 2.56 12-bolt posi. Baer discs all around, Hotchkis suspension, and 17" Billet Specialties hoops.
Latest project is a '66 TWO-DOOR wagon that was built by ACES Member Ken Memmel. It's been pretty much restored back to "original" condition, but all that's fixin' to change. Gonna go with a 330hp GM crate engine, 700R4, and 12-bolt posi w/3.31 cogs. Four wheel discs and 17-inch American 200S wheels, plus Hotchkis parts with a slight slam, flames and tinted windos. It's red with a red bench seat (w/armrest), factory A/C, tilt wheel, and it'll soon have a killer sound system.
Look for it at the ACES events this summer, as I've had my fun with the Silver Bullet (above) and wife says there's no room for two wagons. So the '72 is officially up for sale.

LoWagnChevL Apr 7th, 04, 1:28 AM Have a 71 nomad 28,000 original miles. 1969 Chevelle (was 350 2 bbl/350 10 bolt Concours) Now SS396
Lemans blue with black interior. Factory bucket seats.
PS, PDB, AC, Dual action gate.
396 built to 350 hp specs. All under hood factory correct. 35K on rebuild and driven every day !
TH400 with -2 shift kit.
12 bolt 2:73 non posi
big front sway bar
rear sway bar/boxed arms
SS hood, SS wheels, all SS emblems. Malibu trim removed. Wheel well molding added. Gate painted black between trim strips. Orig black CA plates.
Future plans call for tilt column, console and floor shifter, power windows and finish interior color conversion to black. Factory SS exhaust tips. I'm looking for the PW if anyone has setup to sell ??? Also need good black door panels.
This car looks like a factory built SS396 stawag. I get tons of looks and people always talk to me about it at gas stations.
I know a few people kink their necks when I'm driving around. Lotsa dropped jaws and odd looks.
The only thing I regret is not being able to hear some of the comments from the people in the cars I blow by on the freeway :D
I get the comment all the time....."that must be a rare one". I have yet to have the guts to tell them some BS story like it's one of 3 factory prototypes or something. My grandpa ordered it special or ??? I think about half of them would believe it ;)

Rick Tucker Apr 19th, 04, 2:48 PM I have a 69' Greenbrier 9 passenger w/67k original miles. White with saddle interior, 307/th350 with 2.73 12 bolt built in Baltimore in June of 69' amd delivered to the Red Cross. A year later, an elderly man in Indiana bought it from them. Apparently drove it very little. Occasionally skimmed the sides on his garage door frame. He had Sears ad an underdash A/C in 1977. Around 1999, a family friend (and Chevelle enthusiast) bought it and took it in for paint and carpet. Then sold it to me with 60k miles on Ebay in 2001. Every single item that held liquid leaked due to sitting so much and made big mess. I'm in the process of taking care of all that. I can't bring myself to modify this car in any way, except for adding Ralley's and a Quadrajet. I'll post a photo or 2 as soon as I'm done tinkering with it.
gearheads78 Apr 28th, 04, 8:18 PM I have a 67 Wagon pro touring project that has been on the back burner for the last year. That long roof is making a really good shelf right now.

64SS427 May 3rd, 09, 1:06 AM I had a long roof 64 Chevy II. Bought the car with a reasonably straight body and no rust, shot interior and a running 230 and 3 on the tree. I built a nasty 250, big cam, headers, 194 head for compression, 1.94/1.50 valves, homemade intakes, 3 of them, to mount 3 stock carbs, muncie M21 behind it and 3.08 1 legger. Attempted to shave the rear door handles, very poorly, I was only 20 and didn't do bodywork, the rear glass went up and down with the special turning piece on the end of a st of vice grips.....It as loud and fast for what it was, the body was good. Eventually the timing gears let go and I parked it in the backyard until the wifey bugged me too much and I sold it for parts.
I only had 1 kid then, I have 4 now, the oldest was then the only and maybe 3 or 4, now he's 18. I need another kid hauler and have my ears open for another wagon, but I have 5 rigs now and no more room....

Mr69 Aug 20th, 09, 5:07 AM I have a 1969 Chevelle Concours 4 door sta wag, converted to look like a factory SS396. Was originally Olympic Gold with tan interior, a 350 2bbl TH350 and 10 bolt.
Now 396/350hp, TH400, 12 bolt 2:73. PS, PDB, AC, tilt, console/buckets, Lemans Blue, black interior, 14x7 SS wheels front and 15x8 SS wheels rear. Dual exhaust, rear sway bar, big front sway bar.
This car came originally with air cond, dual action rear gate, power rear window, PS and PDB.
Modifications to body include removing Malibu side moldings, adding wheels well moldings, SS396 emblems, and an original GM SS hood.
For all intents and purposes, this car appears to be a factory made 1969 SS396 Chevelle sation wagon.
I bought this car around 1989, sold it to a local gentleman, who had it for 2 years. A very good friend and I tracked him down and he bought the wagon back from him and then about 6 years later I bought the wagon from my friend. I have pictures of my friend when we were removing the 350/TH350 and putting in the 396/TH400 and 12 bolt rearend around 1992-1993.
When I bought the car, I got it from the 2nd owner and it still had all 4 original T3 headlights on it. I've been considering selling this car but it would have to go to a good home. If interested, email me.

tommycomfort Sep 15th, 09, 2:00 PM Our wagon is really just our fun cruiser and autocross car. We have a full blown project with out 66 hardtop, but the wagon is getting more time and money right now...
Scotch Sep 15th, 09, 11:28 PM LOL Tom...! My '65 GTO project got stuck on the back burner since I jumped into the wagon. It was supposed to be the tow vehicle for the Poncho, but I went a little bit overboard. Now that it's almost done, I'm looking to jump back into the GTO...
I totally dig your wagon! It's a lot like mine, I think.

Scott,
I would say your wagon is many levels above ours, but we have done some very similar things. Somewhere down the road we will worry about doing some paint and body, but for now it has been all suspension and drivetrain mods. We'll be running the Run thru the hills event in Pigeon Forge, TN this weekend, so we'll see how it all works out...
Our battle cry is currently "Finish the 66 by May 1st 2010 or bust!" Sure that sounds kind of like it has for last couple years, but this time we really want to mean it!
Tom
Scotch Sep 15th, 09, 11:43 PM LOL Tom- the paint is relatively new to me. I ran it in white primer for years. There's no shame in that game!
72SS454Wagon Sep 17th, 09, 11:39 PM A 1972 very clean Concours. Picked it up for one heck of a deal at $1,800.00 and it has a great running small block.
By summer 2010....Cranberry Red, black stripes, cowl induction flapper hood, SS spoke wheels ('71-'72 SS wheels),12 bolt 3.73, 454 and some SS badges.
Chevy should have made SS wagons...oh well, guess I will instead.
This is gonna be fun!:D
Hutch85 Sep 18th, 09, 12:48 PM Tom, your '64 looks great - I like the stance it has. Can I ask what springs you're using? I checked out the mods in your signature link, would love to see your custom dash.
Mike (72SS454Wagon), your plans for your '72 sound awesome, can't wait to see pics :)

Thanks Mike,
The suspension mods actually worked very well at the Run thru the Hills autocross. Now if I just had more motor and more skill. The springs are Hotchkis front and rear. The rear sit so low because wagons and el caminos weigh more in the rear. The front springs have some coils cut to match the rear ride height, but it still has a very decent ride. I also just replaced the lower A-arms that had poly bushings with reinforced stock arms with Del-a-lum bushings. No more squeaks!
Here's the best dash picture I can find. It is not so impressive since it was one of the first custom fabrication deals I tried.

blue55 Sep 22nd, 09, 1:06 PM Picked up a '68 concours a few months ago from original owner. Has factory air, power windows and needs lots of TLC. I was impressed how well it handles on the freeway. The skinny tires track nice and straight.

Thanks Tom, sounds like a great setup. Suspension work/upgrades of some sort are on my to-do list, I figure I may as well tackle it sooner than later. Nice tip regarding the Del-a-lum bushings, I used poly bushings in my T-Type and suffered thru squeaking occasionally (quick, turn up the stereo!).
Your dash looks cool, I like how you've kept the layout of the stock dash but added to it - perfect spot for gauges above the radio on a non-A/C car!
Cheers,
