I am stripping the paint (layers) off my "new" car and am wondering how to get the chrome trim above the windows off without damaging it. This is one of the few things on the car in decent shape. Also, what type of sealant is supposed to used in the gutter?

oldrookie -- I have used the flat (or curved) end of a can opener wrapped with electrician's tape to prevent damage to the trim. Fits perfect! Using the "tool" you just made, fasten the lower tab of the tool and pry (in an upward motion) the trim from the rear quarter towards the front ever so slighly. The lower tab of the opener grasps the trim and helps lift it odd from the drip rail. Go slowly and it should work well for you. Let me know how it worked for you... Getting the trim back on can be quite a chore so take your time and start from the rear quarter and work your way forward towards the front of the car. Should slip right on. GM had a specific tool to place them on as described in one of the manuals. I have never seen one of these and have yet to devise a suitable tool to replicate it. Just take your time. Believe me, I learned the hard way and rushing the job will ruin the trim.

I used a one inch square and six inch long piece of hard wood as a drift punch (if you will) and tapped out and up from the lip on the bottom. Go slow and tap along the length to get it to start, and then it goes pretty fast.
