My El Camino is a bench seat car and the guy I bought it from screwed on a 1/4" plywood panel cover with nice fabric behind the seat and mounted Sony 6x9's about 4" from the top. I've had lots of comments from people about how nice it looks. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Where exactly is the panel ~4" below top of the seat and parallel to the ground like a rear dash on chevelle? Or is the panel perpedicular to the ground?

Here is how I installed my speakers.

I still need to pretty it up some but they're out of the way and mounted up high enough that they sound good.

Sorry Bill, I didn't do a very good job of explaining. It's screwed to the shelf behind the seat and the speakers are mounted 4" from the top of the panel.Thepanel is just a 1/4" piece of plywood with carpet type material on it.It hangs straight downand the carpet hangs down past the plywood to the floor. Hope that helps. I'll try to get a pic and post it for you this weekend. Roy

thanks everyone I will design something like you guys have...seems that there is no way of getting the speakers from projecting there sound into back of the seats though.

Bill, sorry about not posting pic. Computer went down over the weekend. What Rick did is basically what mine looks like. Sound comes around seats in mine just fine. I also have aftermarket speakers in each end of dash.Head unit is 140 watt Custom Auto Sound USA 5.

I took off my side panels behind the seat and was able to cut a hole big enough to fit a 6x9 in the side body cavity. I then marked out the panel and cut it to the size of the speaker and them mounted the speaker bezel over the panel. There is about 4" of space between the inner body panel and the outer body 1/4 panel.Check it out..
