Do I understand correctly that Chev Never installed the rear sway bar from the factory in the El caminos? If so WHY?

Because all elkys came with air shocks????? (Not a frame and suspension geometry guru so I don't know what that would have to do with it....but it sounds good.) ;)

I put one on mine and I'm glad I did. I used an aftermarket 7/8 rear bar and also upgraded the stock front 7/8 bar to an 1 1/8 bar. It makes a big difference !!! The drag racers don't run a front one or will take it loose when racing to help weight transfer.

To my knowledge, el caminos never received a rear sway bar because it supposedly gave the rear end a harsher ride. Without the rear sway bar, it gave more of a comfort level for the back end. Basically, if they (GM) installed the rear sway bar as factory, you would feel every single crack in the road. Most Chevelles and Elkys I have seen have them though. Yes, I have one on my elky. Again, this is going on what I have heard, but I could be wrong.

A member here had a 1969 with the F41 suspension package ... it supposedly had a rear sway bar from the factory ... This is the only one which I know of with the rear sway bar as being at least partially documented. Either way, I installed on my '72 El Camino ... I'm much happier with the ride since I installed that and the 1 1/4" sway bar up front.

I upgraded my front bar to 1 1/4 and installed a stock rear bar from a chevelle. DEFINITELY a good upgrade! Cornering is very good, ride quality is fine (it's a TRUCK)!
Merry Christmas Bryan! Hope school is going well.

Bryan,
Do you have a website for that GM parts place you recommended?

I heard the same as it has been posted already.
My 72 Sprint did not have one either and I as well installed one and also upgraded the front as well.
I like the way it drives and handles now.

To my knowledge El Caminos never had rear sway bars. Don't remember why but I installed a 1" bar on the rear of my SS and it made a heck of a difference. Handles a whole lot better. :D
