did anyone ever take and mount another set of backup lights in the bumper (like in a '68) in place of the reflectors, in a '69 to '72 el camino? so you have two sets of back up lights.

sounds like could be done,just wire both together.Don't know about the inspection part, if would pass.

Yes it has been done. I mounted a set of 68 backup lights in my 71. I also used the red reflectors from the 71. Then you can have an extra set of taillights, or brakelights, depending upon which bulbs you use and how you wire them up.

I did this last year.They are the exact same housing with a red reflecter but just an empty shell inside.I bought some 68 clear lenses and soldered a bulb socket to the housings and wired them up.It would have been easier to just buy the 68 housings(they come with the lenses)but it was a winter project.I'm going to replace my tailgate with the 68 style I like that look better.
