Probably the hardest decision I made on my first car. Spent 6 months looking at different reds. I didn't want it to dark or to have any orange in it. I kept coming back to the same red and finally my brother said to me, "there's a reason Porche has used the same red for many years, they got it just right!" Porche Guards Red, it just doesn't disappoint.

Audi has a red that is brighter than the guards red. I have had experience with both and like the Audi color better.

Guards red is actually very orange. If you put a REAL red next to it like Ferrari red it looks like brown mud.

I'm painting my Gran Sport Chrysler "Flame red" it is a very nice med dark red. And MUCH redder than Chryslers "Viper red".

I just painted my sons 66 wagon last week with "new formula red", a 1998 or 1999 Honda red. It is a red with out much orange. We like the way it came out..

Painted mine Guards Red. In some lights and in alot of pictures I can see a little orange. See my sig. Overall I'm pleased with it though, I didn't want it too dark.

IMO, i got a beautiful red. It bright but not too bright and when you wet the car down it looks somewhat orange in the sunlight; very neat.

I'm with Mystery Chevelle on painting it stock color. A car can be painted ANY color but only one color is factory correct. If not factory color, it's so hard to narrow downall the options you have. It's cool seeing cars that are 30 years old with the factory colors on them, brings back memories.

And that red would be?

I think Mr4speeds 396 SS painted with the Chevy Lumina Z34 Red looks awesome. Dunno the paint code but I really dig the color he chose.

1989-92 Cadillac Medium Garnet Red Metallic. Picture doesn't show it very well, but color has some a real neat "strawberry red" color when the sun hits it- looks burgandy in the dark.

you cannot tell from the pictures because it is in a garage.

If you want I can send you some big paint chips that i took off the car and i will send them in an envelope. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Better yet, When i get the paint for the car I will send you a sample throught the mail if you want.

Lytemup, if you plan on getting paint for that car soon, dont be surpised if the color that the machine gives back is off. Red is the most effected color, meaning that the red pigments in paint are the first to be burnt from the UV. If you compare the paint on the outside of the doors to say like the jams you will notice that the color is a different shade even though its the same color.

So if you get a color match make sure that they read it from the jams and not from the outside. Also gloss can throw off those machines too, make sure that the paint is nice and shiny. Just some simple advice from someone that has gotten to play with those color match machines...Eric

My 88 Pontiac Formula Firebird and my 99 Dodge Ram 4x4 were both red. When I repaint my Sprint, it's going to be factory Placer Gold Metallic (with clear coat and a deep shine of course!). I am burned out on red cars.

RedHot66, what rims are those on your car? They look a lot like the Cragar Drag Star II (http://www.cragarforgedalloys.com/DragstarII.html) forged alloys.

I went with bolero red, it is the correct color for that car and if you black out hte tail, he contrast looks awsome. to see pics of my car look here. http://www.team67.com/1967/gallery/index.htm It is under David and Kay Francis. Double click on the name to see multiple shots at different angles. Hope this helps, I do not think you will be dissapointed with the Bolero Red. It was also Chevy Apple Red in the mid 70's
