My 66 SS396 is an original 4 sp. non-console car, So there is no shifter "hump". First off, can a console be installed in a non-console center hump? I bought the car with a console crudely put in without the brackets. Fist off, the two front plastic tabs on the bottom of the console were cut off, so I can't attach the front U bracket. I attached the other two brackets to the console & set it in place. I can't get the front U shaped bracket under the console when the center & rear brackets are in contact with the tranny hump. I have about 1/4" of interference, hence the reason the previous owner cut off the front tabs. When I do put in the front U bracket, the center bracket lifts off the tranny hump. Is this because it's a non-console car? I would imagine the floor boards for all 66 & 67 chevelles were the same, the welded-in shifter hole should be the only difference, right? Anyway, should I dent the hump a little where the front U bracket mounts until the center one touches?

If anyone has a console car, and has the rug removed can you get me some dimensions?

I need:

-First off, how tall are the tabs on the bottom of the plastic part of the console? (the tabs that mount to the front U bracket)
I know how wide & how thick they sould be, because I can see where they were cut off.

-How far from the end of the tabs are the mounting holes?

-What dia. are these holes?

-When the console is mounted to the brackets, what is the dimension from the floorboard to the bottom of the console at each bracket location? ie. very bottom of plastic edge on console to metal floor, no carpet or sound deadener.

Well, Anyone.....

i made this installation about a year ago. my 66 was also a non console car, when i get home this evening i'll take some measurements and e-mail you back. ihave the console out right now.

EDT66SS the tunnel plate for a non console car is not the same for a console car. If you have a year one cat. check out the pics. of their's and you will see the difference.
