Ok guys, this is my first attempt at this body work stuff.
I have the car stripped to bare metal.
I live in Arizona, so I'm not too worried about surface rust.
What should I do first, Body work or prime the car. While stripping the car I have found some of the old body work that I will need to re-do. Also I have trim holes to weld up and smooth over.
Any suggestions for this stage of my project?

Since it's dry out there I would do all the bondo work and trim hole filling first. Then wipe it down with "metal prep" and prime it. Even if you can't see any rust you want to use a rust remover (metal prep) before priming.

Thanks,
Oh ya, do I need an etching primer, epoxy primer,or what? Both?I see some of the posts and I get so confused about which one to use.

I agree, and always use a metal prep unless you are using and etch primer, which is recommended. I've heard that the acids in the etch don't play well with certain metal preps, always check your tech sheets. Best of luck, this is what I'm doing now, now that the velle is in the garage. graemlins/hurray.gif
Best of luck,

Oops, looks like you replied while I was typing. If it were me, I would do the metal, and filler work and then shoot it with and etch, then a 2k primer/surfacer. From what I understand the epoxy is just some extra protection, with the added benefit that you can do filler work over it. Definitely don't put any filler ontop of the etch, and if you're going to use the epoxy as well, it goes on after the etch, and before the 2k.

Hi, I'm trying to read as much as possible about this bare metal biss as my 66 is bare now soooo.....what in the world is 2k?
Also can you recomend any personal protective equitment (mask ect.)to be used with these primers?

66, 2K is a pretty bad slang name for primer surfacer. 2K stands for 2 component meaning it contains the PRIMER and a hardener, altho some do contain a reducer. A primer surfacer is the primer you block sand so the finish is NICE and LEVEL. A few examples would be PPG's K36 or K38(I prefer the 38) Dupont's Uroprime(if they still make it) and S-W ph48.
As for the mask if you read the VERY top post in that post you will find ALL the info you need to spray those primers...Eric
