Which way to go http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif
I'm looking to strip my 71 Chevelle to take it for body work and paint. Been checking out past post on this topic and started to lean towards Martinsr suggestion of using the spray pellet method. Just got back from Fall Carlisle and saw a demo on a product, Captain Lee's Spra-'Strip. Anybody out there use this product? What's nice is it's not an acid. If I go with the plastic pellets where is a good place to buy the whole setup?
A bodyman told me to strip it down to the factory undercoat. Will any of these stipping methods do that?

Thanks for any suggestions,
Andy

Okay I think you're talking about media blasting. That's definitely the way to go but I think that must be pretty costly. I don't know much about it. I did strip my car down to bare medal using Por-15's paint stripper. I had 4 layers of paint on my car and it would take approximately an hour or two to take a body panel down to bare metal. Most of that waiting for the stripper to sit. It took a while to figure the stuff out. Can't do it in any sun and the surface has to be cool. Also I cleaned up with a DA and 80 grit. MUCH easier than sanding alone.

Right, that's what I was referring to media blasting. How nasty is it to use Por-15? Do you have to dispose of the waste as hazardous material? Will this stuff eat your skin and kill brain cells? I Don't have too many of them cells left http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I found a cool way to strip parts..good luck on the roof and quarters though...look for a local furnature restoration or renovator shop, I took my hood, trunk, fenders, inner fenders, door, dash etc to them. They dipped them in a caustic acid which took the paint and the majority of the rust off. It was real cheap too, they charged me like 15 bucks a panel. The bad thing about sand blasting is the panels tend to worp, we sandblast 16ga tab stock all the time, and we gotta blast both sides since it worps so bad.
