I just dropped the tank from my 72. Took me all day on Saturday to get all the undercoating off the bottom, and all of Sunday to take off the surface rust from top and sides of tank.there are a few small dings in the bottom I want to fill in before I put on a new finish. The car is going to be a restification, not totally original. In your opinions,What color looks the best, natural or black. My car came originally with undercoated tank from the dealer, but I don't want to go that route again.So....what do ya all think? Majority wins!!!!! TIA Don

Don, I painted the tank on my '66 ragtop with cold zinc paint. Looks great and has held up very well over past couple of years. graemlins/hurray.gif

Restification is a good word, for those who want to go s/w original but keep creature comforts and cost down smile.gif
That said, I still think the NATURAL/Bare Steel LOOK is great and eye catching! You can PAINT it with one of the many in a can natural looks...but stick with the Black Straps for contrast.

Natural with black straps looks best in my opinion.

I've heard that black fuel tanks are bad since they retain heat. Can cause vapor lock problems.
Regardless, I'd stay natural. Just put a new tank in my 72, and left it "as is"...

I used this to paint the top of my new tank and the filler neck. I left the bottom natural.
