From what I've read, the 1972 Elky SS's came standard with driver's side remote chrome mirrors. However, someone switched mine to sport style mirrors (they don't work too well with the wind wings)
Anyway...
1) Did the adjustable mirrors come standard?
2) Will a Chevelle mirror work? (Chevelle sport mirrors don't fit but the chrome non-adjustables do). So, I'm afraid to spend $70 on something that won't fit.

All the '71-'72 SS El Caminos came with the chrome driver's remote mirror (and no passenger mirror). The remote mirror was optional on non-SS '71-'72 El Caminos. The same mirror was also used on some mid-'70s GM cars. As far as I know, there was no mirror made for the passenger side that matches the style of the remote driver's mirror. This '71 Sprint shows the correct remote mirror:

This type of mirror was not used on Chevelles.

That's the one.
Strange, there was one that just expired on Ebay that said it was from a Chevelle. (It's not the first I've seen either)
They have a non remote (standard) mirror that looks like that only thinner. That's what I was going to put on the passenger side.
Concerning the chrome rectangular remote mirror; if the base is the same for the full-sized B-body cars as the Chevelles in question, look for a seventies Caprice (not Impala or Bel Air). They offered a rectangular RHS mirror that was more deeply shrouded (matches the remote mirror). The B-body wagons (with the disappearing clamshell tailgate) came with the RHS mirror as standard. I'm talking about the 1971-76 Chevies in particular. It may be only '74-on, just keep your eyes peeled.

Problem is that the Chevelle doors are different than Elkys and the only way the mirrors will work is if you can swivel them (which I don't think they do).
