It looks like the air for these vents comes from the cowl area. I am wondering when water gets in there, how does it get out? Mine seems to hold water and I know that can't be good.

With the fender off, loacted at the bottom of the vertical pinch weld that attaches the forward outboard cowl to the outboard hinge pillar is a small notch. I believe the idea was to have water drain at that point (which conveniently drains it onto the fender mount bolt/nut!) and in fact it does so very well until dirt plugs it up, which turns into mud, which in turn holds water like a sponge.......A similar situation can be seen on the front face of the rocker panels but it is much less obvious as there is no definite notch or drain hole. I've got the body off of my '68 now and have taken the opportunity to vacume and wash out those and similar areas including the quarters.
