I sold my 69 Chevelle Malibu (Daily Driver) a few weeks ago and I bought a 68 El Camino in March to replace it. Elky had a cracked block on both sides and I was trying to find a 350 for it and couldnt come up with anything tat was basicly ready to put in. So when I sold my 69 Chevelle I kept the motor and trans. The motor is the original 307 that came with the car when it was new. Its a strong running higher horse 307 motor (200 hp factory w/2bbl.carb and single exhaust) I had a 4bbl.carb and dual 2 1/2 in. exhaust, headers on it. So it probably was around 250 or 260 hp total. Now this weekend my Son-In-Law is going to install a Cam and Lifters that I bought from Summit. Its a Competetion Xtreme Energy Cam .Its supposed to make lots of torque and good vaccum. RPM range is 600 to 4600. Im also installing a Fel-Pro Full Engine gasket set and a Brass soft plug set, and a Zoom double roller timing chain and steel gears. Just wanted to freshen the motor up a bit, I thought it deserved at least that much anyway. It supposedly was rebuilt in 1988,and I got it in 1998 and it was my daily driver ever since. That car never let me down not once. Never left me sitting. I gave it new quarter panels, front fenders from the South, body mount bushing and bolt kit,new big block coil springs and shocks. It was a GOOD Daily Driver winter and summer. I sure hope that my 68 Elky will be as dependable. I cant wait to drive it,but wont have motor in Elky till last weekend in May.I think that its really going to be a fun car/truck to drive.
