: Has Anyone Replaced Elky Headliner ?
Bo6869ChevelleMan Apr 1st, 04, 11:32 PM Has anyone replaced their headliner in their El Camino ? Isnt there supposed to be a few rods in there? When I got my 68 El Camino a few weeks ago the headliner was allready removed and I was wondering if there was supposed to be rods there and how many and where I could get them at. flywheel Apr 10th, 04, 12:54 AM Three bows, rear one has the plastic clips on it.Be careful taking them out and back in they break easy....
Putting the liner in,I used those black springy paper clips you can buy at the office supply stores to hold liner up and stretch out for about a week.pulling it out a little each nite.Really helps. Was a tip from another TCer.Buy about 18-20 of them and clip them on every 3-4".

MAXX2 Apr 30th, 04, 11:37 PM We need a '69 Elke headliner for a pattern, as Judy is doing the upholstery work in Madrid Black to match the TWI Door Panels.
The headliner doesn't have to be anything special, just something she can use as the pattern. We already have the bows, etc.
The bows are on page 99 of the new OPG Catalog, part #HLBE687 @ $49.95, plus the installation clip kit (6 pieces) part #KPP320 @ $20.95.

The above prices mean that we should all be spending more of our time finding these items when we have extra time on our hands (?????)
ac72rat May 2nd, 04, 9:09 AM Say Rick

dutch1970 May 12th, 04, 12:30 AM engineer, do you have the plastic clips in that parts el camino? If you don't need them , let me know. Email me with info. Thanks
flywheel May 12th, 04, 1:16 AM Ac72rat,I believe I got the liner from Hinshaw's.
The quality is fine. It's not as hard as it seems.Get the clips and slip the rods thru it and start putting it up.Will have to trim the material back around the rods so you can pull it tight.Start at the front and work your way around till its centered.I let mine set for a day or two then pulled it tighter each day.Once it's stretched out trim away some of the extra all the way around then spray your glue up and around where the material tucks into and on the edges of the material and start poking it into the sides around the top.Start at the front and work around...
I did have to take a steam iron to the top before installing it to get some of the box creases out,go lightly so as not to burn it...
