My friend has found a nice 68 El Camino tailgate in a junkyard that is dent and rust free what would be a fair price to pay for it, I know the less the better but what would be a fair price that isn't over priced? thanks.

If it really is dent and rust free- somewhere between $100-$200
I wouldn't pay more than that, unless of course it happened to also be a spot on paint match for your car and you could just bolt it on... :D

Yes that sounds about right $100- 200. range sounds pretty fair. Your friend wouldnt happen to know if this El Camino in the salvage yard has the Original Steering Wheel still on it ,would he ?? I have the center pcs.(metal) but I need the wheel itself, but am willing to buy both pcs. if I have to. Thanks for the responses guys, we will be going next week to get it I will let you know if we were able to hagle. ;)
Mark: The steering wheel is still in it but it is cracked very badly, it has several 1/2" gaps in it. It would need alot of work to restore it but I will check to see how much the owner would sell it for. Would a standard 68 Impala steering wheel work? 69-70 Impala steering wheels look the same as a Chevelle, I'm sure a 68 Impala wheel would be the same and fit a 68 Chevelle. I have seen a reproduction 68 Impala steering wheel for sale in an Impala parts catalog. I'm in the same boat as you, I just bought a 68 Chevelle and it's wheel is cracked to hell, I'm thinking about ordering the Impala wheel for it and seeing if it would work.

Thanks BK72SS , I would appreciate it very much if you could ask him how much he would want for the Steering Wheel, and email me and let me know please. A 68 Impala steering wheel should be the same but I dont know about the 69 Impala wheel, Ive never seen one. I could epoxy the cracks with POR-15 epoxy putty and then sand, prime and paint the cracked steering wheel. They even have the steering wheel restoration kits available with everything in them to restore your old cracked wheel to like new condition. But you can do it with the POR EPOXY Putty and then sand and file a little and wipe it down with wax and grease remover and prime and paint. Thats probably what im going to have to do. So let me know what he wants for it and if he will ship it to me to Wheeling,WV. 26003 if I would send him a money order or a cashiers check. Do you also have a 68 Chevelle and a 68 El Camino too ?
