I'd go with the 454 and your present 4 speed.

If it were me Id go for the 327 with a turbo trans. The 327 is a tough reliable all around great motor, not to mention alot less weight also, and with the turbo trans its so nice to just cruise around and not have to shift all the time. But if you go with the turbo trans get a good shift kit (trans-go) shift kit and have your trans. man or qualified buddy install it. I had a 69 Chevelle SS 4 spd and sold it for a 68 Chevelle Malibu with 350 turbo trans. with shift kit and Im much happier with the 68 AUTO. than the 69 4spd. Thanks for the input guys,Iwas a little suprised that no one thought the Caddy was a good choice as they are a giant torque motor and are pretty close to the small block in weight and dimension graemlins/beers.gif easy swap also.
