sorry about the non-chevelle post, but i am having problems with the paint flaking/chipping off the roof of my 94 dodge intrepid. Whats happeneing is that the paint would start to flake off, then the edges of that flake would start to go, making the diameter of the chip bigger. Looks like a bunch of sores on the roof. My question is how do i stop these flaking sores from making themselves bigger? I am a COMPLETE novice when it comes to bodywork/painting. Should i sand it w/ something then paint something over to seal it? Any help would be greatly appretiated. Thanks- Eric

dodge has thin paint and chips easy. i got a 2001 ram 4x4 and got a chunk of paint missing on my roof about 2in x 2in it dont bother me though cause no one can ever see my roof cause my truck is lifed. Its not to bare metal just chiped the 1st surface of paint off. i have noticed that my dodge truck gets alot more stone chips on lower pannels compared to my last ford truck.

You wont be able to STOP it.

It needs to be stripped down to the factory primer/sealer then sealed and repainted.
Appling more paint on top of the old peeling paint is a waste of time and good material.

How to SLOW it down
Easy dont dirve it dont wash

He's saying other than not driving it, you can't stop it. Only real fix is to strip to factory primer and repaint.

Ive heard several reasons as to WHY they peeled.
One was after they got sealed the factory waited too long before the final painting. The other was a new sealer was being used and it flashed off sooner then expected, paint wouldnt stick to it. Finally the paint they applied was so thin that the UV rays from the sun destroyed the paint causing it to peel.
The problem lays between the paint and the primer/sealer, so appling more paint on top of paint will do nothing.

The only cure is to strip it and repaint it
