I have the struts and pump/motor to convert to a power top. Right now my top is manual...

Does anyone have any info on routing the hydraulics and wiring the motor?

A hydraulic and electric diagram would be best. Pics would be welcome too.

Thanks,

Doug

Before you hook up those cylinders better get a power top frame, the top frames are not the same and you will destroy your manual top in short order if you try using it with the cylinders.

Yeah? Is that right? RATS -because the guy giving me the power set-up said I could have the frame too, but I did not take it because it was to big to haul (At the time)

Guess I have to do some home work...

I know on the camaro the center bow is different. Its designed to pull the top down instead of it being pushed down. You can swap the center bow without putting on a new top. But again we are talking Camaro

In a way you're talking major surgery. It's gonna cost you so you might as well do it right so I'm looking at it being a correct retro fit. You'll need the power top wiring harness that runs from the horn relay. You'll need a power top switch and the harness. The flat ribbon under the carpet has 2 heavy duty wires attached to it to power the hydraulic pump. A set of lines for the cylinders is expensive, unless you know of a local place that can make some for you. You're going to need a new convertible top as well. $cha-ching-cha-ching$ IMO it may not be worth the hassel.

I converted my 66 to power, and the frame is definitely different...

The bows all look the same, as well as the main side pieces...

BUT, the "linkage" thats attached to the main frame is where the difference lies...

I was lucky that I happened to mention my future conversion to a gentleman that had a power frame available...

I would also agree with Bad415:
Unless you REALLY, REALLY want it, or you NEED to replace the top material anyway, I'd postpone it. Its gonna be expensive... Its not that hard to operate manually anyway...

Good news is any 66-67 A-body convertible power top should work, and not only are the others usually cheaper cars (Skylarks, Cutlasses, Lemans) and seem to be parted out/sent to wrecking yard, but they were nicer equipped (in general), so more likely to find a power setup... there... They

Thanks for all the input guys. Had I known I would have taken the top out of that A body goat when it was offered to me.

I definetly need a new top without question. So it's really the frame I have to look into.

I have the cylinders (2) the pump/motor and the tubing. I don't have a harness though. I figured I cold get that through Year one or another supplier.

I drive by a convertible top place frequently, so I will pop in and see what they think. Perhaps they have one kicking around (Hey, you never know)
