View Full Version : color to paint my 71 rag?
FO_FDYFO May 19th, 04, 10:12 AM all right guys, and not you Jim North, what color should i paint my 71 rag? the toss up right now is between yellow or red? i really love yellow and that was the color of the chevelle i just sold that was my first car, so i was going to paint it yellow to replace that car and i really like yellow with black stripes. the car was originally but has be since painted red. i am taking it all down so i can do a color change at this point. so should i paint it red again with black stripes or should i go yellow? any input would be appreciated. i know there arelots of red chevelles and lots of yellow chevelles already but i dont want blue at all.
EddieF May 19th, 04, 10:20 AM I'm not sure about yellow with black stripes. If those were the only options I'd vote for red with black. But I prefer red with white stripes. I've seen some great looking cars on this site in dark green with white stripes.
The interior is black, right?

Sid Coleman May 19th, 04, 10:39 AM I like the light green with black stripes, but I'm biased :D
FO_FDYFO May 19th, 04, 10:59 AM yes it has black interior.
i like green too.
I'm so confused
EddieF May 19th, 04, 11:22 AM Okay, I'm going with dark metallic green and pearl white stripes, and that's my final answer!
What Pete your not a fan of blue with white stripes? ;)
I'd vote for a light yellow with black stripes graemlins/waving.gif
FO_FDYFO May 19th, 04, 1:59 PM now i'm thinking of the "beldar's" color, PT cruiser's dark charcole grey. man i hate this undeciding issue
Sid Coleman May 19th, 04, 4:08 PM You've got mail. That color is hard to capture on film.
jnorth May 19th, 04, 9:05 PM Any color is fine BUT yellow!!!! There is no need for TWO yellow 71 Chevelle ragtops running around Manassas and mine was originally yellow. Of course I'll swap you even up if you want. smile.gif
mr 4 speed May 21st, 04, 8:27 AM I painted my 68 Cutlass convertible Daytona yellow..I like it.Looks sharp with the Olds rally rims painted charcoal grey too.Nice contrast between that and the black top.
FO_FDYFO May 21st, 04, 8:30 AM so far i am 99% sure i'm going with yellow.
ss3964spd May 21st, 04, 10:05 AM Pete, I think the grey scheme is great - and different. How about a light grey base with subtely darker grey stripes?
Or SeaFoam Green with black stripes.
Or, or, orrrr.....
Geez, I'm glad I don't have to decide.

Pvt.Cowboy May 21st, 04, 8:10 PM My advice is to keep it a 1971 GM color.
Imagine 1971 Corvette 'War Bonnet Yellow' with white stripes, white interior, and a white top.
See the 1971 shade here under number '91':

Caramelicious! It would be a real head-turner with some shiny chromed wheels -- even if they were TTII's graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I also like 'Bronzini Gold' (Code #66 from the same page) and 'Sunflower Yellow' (Code #52), 'Cortez Gold' (#53) and 'Dutchess Gold' (#54) from this page:

Man, what Gold to choose? Sunflower, Dutchess, Cortez, Bronzini, or the 'War Bonnet' paint from the 1971 Corvette?
Decisions, decisions.
Brian Donovan May 22nd, 04, 2:26 AM I had issues deciding what color my car should be and having issues deciding I knew no metter what color it was when the paint dried I would wonder If it should have been another. So I let the builders decide and went with the original cranberry red. The car will be all original soon so get his part out of the way first.
