Can anyone tell me where the convertible top switch would have been located on a 68 Chevelle.

If anyone has a picture they can email, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Woj

Bottom left under the dash. I had a 68 Impala Convert and I'm sure it is similar. A square paddle switch that pointer towards the floor.

Gents,

Thanks for the replies. I'm putting together an unfinished 69 Convertible project car and some of the wiring and switches don't seem right for 69. From your descriptions, it is not 68 either. I was thinking maybe it had a 68 switch since it was an early 69 production car (October 1968). I've seen some 68 and 69 components mixed in the past on early production cars.

The dash bezel on this car does not have a hole in the location that a 69 convertible would have a switch, but the dates on the guages and clock match up with the build date of the car.

I'll be scratching my head on this one for a while.

Thanks again.

check your assembly manual, it lets you know exactly where and exact dimensions for placing the switch, If your looking for 69 the wiring runs along the top of firewall inside car and is supported by the production harness holders there exits through the middle of the defrost vents then to dash 3 prong female style on harness, 3 prong male on switch. switch itself for a 69 is approx. 2 in tall by 1 inch wide and the chrome toggle switch is long rectangle, if I can be of any more help or you want pics email me. hope i have been of some help.. jason.

oops sorry, forgot to mention that the switch gets mounted directly above the lighter socket, and cutout looks like an offset chevy bowtie.

Jason,

Thanks for the information. It sounds like you have a 69 Convertible. If so, can you also tell me if you have the 30 amp circuit breaker on the firewall for the convertible top motor? If not, do you know if it gets its power from somewhere else?

Thanks again.

ok, this is easy since my car is in a million pieces right now. The orange 12v goes through the firewall where it meets a 30 amp breaker just above the main wiring junction box. from there it gains power from the distribution block at the driver side headlights. the purple (switched 12v)and the grey (ground) routes behind the fuse box down the intermediate wire harness and behind the rear seat to the pump. hope that aids you. jason.
