: Roll bar?

As long as I've had my convertible, I've wondered about installing a roll bar. I always feel a little nervous on the highway at 65 mph.
I would prefer someting that was more aesthetic than a standard round bar. Some of the newer factory bars I've seen are rectangular and I thought they looked good. Does anyone know of a bar that would fit a '69 Chevelle and look good?
Thanks,
Rich

There are no convertibles that look good with a rollbar, not even the Shelby Cobras or GT500s.

See a lot of flipped convertibles on the road where you live, do you?

I haven't seen any except the common racing ones, but you could have a chassic shop weld one up for you...

I have seen some oval ones that look okay. I think two tubes, side by side, with some sheet metal filler panels welded between them, and then welds ground smooth, etc...

Personally, I don't like the looks of a rollbar, and a really effective one will also limit the use of the back seat, and maybe the folding top...

Rich,
I wouldn't put a roll bar in your car.
In my opinion it wouldn't look right and would hurt the resale value, if you ever decided to sell the car. Modified cars are cool to the person that owns the car, but makes it harder to sell, unless you can find someone who apprecites the modifications, or.... the modifications can be undone without harming the original appearance or structure of the car.

Actually, I've never seen a flipped convertible anywhere, but I've seen many cars and trucks of all types lying on their crushed roofs. Blown tires, mechanical failures and traffic accidents don't strictly happen to hardtops and sedans, they just happen to them more often b/c there are more of them on the road.
Thanks for the posts, I appreciate all your thoughts.

P.S. (I always thought the GT500 looked cool with a roll bar)
