Are the 1967 El Camino frames close enought to use on a 1966 Convertible?

They should be pretty close. Aside from the obvious rear length being different, there might be a difference in the upper rear spring pockets... I'm not sure if 67 used the smaller upper pigtail on the rear coil springs...

The elco frames for 64-67 are exactly the same. The can be used for the convert. by shortening then 2-3 inches. My '65 is riding on a '66 elco frame right now. I took it to a good fram shop and cut the fram to the exact size and it fit perfectly.

I didn't notice this topic earlier, I see you have your answer. But yeah, my '66 convertible now has a '67 El Camino frame. I got it from Sundell's, and they shortened it for me. when ordering springs, I just ordered '67 rear springs. Of course, I don't yet have the body on the frame, but it should work!

If you need a frame and found an elky frame, I'd snatch it up if I were you.

The El Camino and Chevelle Convertibles have boxed frames. Sedan frames are NOT boxed frames since they do not requre as much support. An El Camino frame CAN be used on a convertible Chevelle but only after a small modification. The modification is removing 3 inches of both sides of the frame behind the rear wheels/over the gas tank area where the box ends and open channels start. If you order a convertible frame froma yard or company, chances are that you recieved a modified El Camino frame and would not know the difference. If one uses a regular sedan frame on a convertible, sagging will occur due to not enough support.
