: Rear seat courtesy lights?

My car doesn't currently have the rear seat courtesy lights. Was this an option on the 70 convertibles?

I'd like to put a set in. Does anyone have any input on the quality of the reproductions? I've tried to latch on to some originals however they seem to be made of gold based on the prices I've seen them fetch!

Haven't used any of the repros but you might want to broaden your search. The other A-bodys used the exact same lights and don't cost near as much if the seller doesnt know they fit Chevelles. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I had the same problem so I bought some flush mounting lights from the local auto parts store. Very inexpensive.

Where are rear seat courtesy lights installed? I have them under my dash, but none in the rear seat area....didn't even know there were such buggers.

On my '66, the light is at the back of the console. Never worked before, but I got a new console harness and when the car goes back together it's one (of about a million) of the things I'm looking forward to. Those little details really stand out, I think.

The guy I bought my car from told me they came out of a Buick and are mounted on the curved portion of the rear wall panels, just behind the buckets.

Really a nice touch!

Andy It was an option on Chevelles. Last summer at All GM Carlisle I scored a set of rear "door panels" for a ragtop with the lights and lenses still installed for $5. So don't pay the repro prices when originals can still be had from people that don't know what they have.

Thanks for the pic for the placement.

As for the wiring harness, you might try calling M & H. They seem to be very willing to help out in a pinch. http://www.wiringharness.com

i just wanted to add that the metal side pannels that they mount in are different. the ones with the lights have a stamped metal mounting area built in. the other kind do not. i found a set on a 71 skylark. i am going to just recover them.

I would have to say that he is wrong. Maybe he meant they were standard on the other A-bodies. Both of my Chevelles have them and I doubt they were added. Also many repro companies sell them as replacements not upgrades. Anybody got a buildsheet code for them?

You have mail.

Since your address is private, I have no way (that I know of) to attach them to a PM.

If you pm me with your address, I'd be happy to send them on.
