This was the 4 speed outta the pair of Orange COPO cars that were together for quite some time,,, when they got sold they got split up,, Jeff Landress in Nashville had the Automatic car for awhile ,, but not sure if he still does,, this 4 speed car is in Texas,,, and I second the "Real Deal" he bought it from one of the Super Car regulars over in the Yenko site,, cars very documented from wat I understand from Sean

The single COPO (COPO 9561 427/425hp) cars had 14" wheels/tires...the double COPO cars like the Yenko cars (COPO 9561 427/425hp and COPO 9737 15" wheels/tires, HD suspension, etc.) would have had the 15" wheels/tires originally.

joe58
Jan 12th, 05, 8:28 AM
most of the 427 COPO Chevelles had the SS wheels on them. The ones ordered with Yenko's 9737 COPO came with 15 inch Rally wheel and F 70 goodyear wide track tires. The 427 COPO Chevelles used the SS hood, trim, lights, and black out panels. This one looks like it has the Malibu grill. I like the way they look with the blacked out SS grill with the bowtie emblem.

Gentleman,

This is the Real Deal. These photo`s were taken by a good friend and I (I happen to be in one of the pics), the day the car left for Texas. This Chevelle was in the Chicago area for atleast 4-5 years that I know of. The car is truly a sight to see. I am also very familar with the "Other Twin" code 72 COPO 69 Chevelle that Jeff Latondress owned. Both cars are real and beautiful representatives of true American Muscle. I was at the show... the last time the two cars were parked next to one another. I`m sure one they soon they will again be parked next to one another.

I dont know how you could make such a bold statement that the car is BS. It has been around since 1995 when it was in Atlanta at the Chevelle convention held there. It has GM of Cananda documentation proving what it is. smile.gif

the car is the real deal (I own it) I have had everthing checked out by 2 differant people ed cunneen and ont other which I will not reveal his name for his privacy. As for the hmmmm to the grounding straps they are not correct but the guy who did the resto made a mistake and put them on. BTW he died so I cant call him and tell him he screwed up. Everyone wants to beat these cars up I know there are alot of clones out there but this is not. I spent alot of hard earned money on the car and to the people I did the deal with were 110% straight up guys and plus I made a couple of new friends. I am changing some things up in my collection so that is the only reason I am selling the car and to whom ever buys it they will be very happy with it. Thanks Sean

Thanks for the comment regarding the grounding straps. I'm in no position to challenge anything, I just remember a recent post regarding them. I normally stand back and listen when someone like Nick Lewis says it's the real deal. It is a beautiful car.

I think it is nice to "see" a real one for a change, one that everyone can agree is real. Enlighten me here....I have just started paying attention to these COPO's in the last year. Not that I will ever have the large cash to own one but I find them an interesting piece of muscle car history. My question: Could any dealer order a COPO 427? I was somehow under the impression that only a priviledged few could, like the Yenko's, Scuncio's etc.

Jan 13th, 05, 7:19 PM
Hard to argue with all the paper that car has...especially Canadian paper. Would be proud to have it in my garage..love the color. I have not seen a 9566AA car with radio delete before..mine has a AM in it.
and yes I think any dealer could order one...if they knew how :D

This car is certainly the "real deal." It was bought to the forefront by Harry Snow of NH. He located the pair and had the resto work done. Harry sold the the cars in the late 1990's and is now into '67 L71 Corvettes. Harry is a great guy (I bought the "pilot car" from him in 1994) and a very knowledgeable Chevelle person.

Nick, I like that LS6 to much just plain balls!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to have one of your cars anyways to good to let go and to dang hard to find. I spoke with the guy who has the other 4 speed copo located in Idaho it was a pretty interesting conversation. He said his car did not have smog and his has chambered exhuast which mine does not real nice guy said he wouldnt mind having this one we will see what happens. Is this one real? He doesn't list the VIN number anywhere. Just curious, not bidding.

irongolf
Feb 17th, 05, 9:23 PM
well Sean (AKA Cube) is a good guy, but you know one way to see if it's truly a real car is to take the heater box off and match the fire wall VIN to the vin on the dash, if they don't match it's an envelop car or factory mish mash, there are a few of these that have been accepted as "real" cars, whatever if you accept the Canadian docs then it's real.

I am back did anyone miss me?

I see that it did not sell on the relisted auction. It sure looks like a beauty.

As for whether or not any dealer could order a COPO, once the COPO was assigned and priced out, any dealer could order it (if they knew how, as was stated much earlier in this thread). I met a guy from Brantford, Ontario, Canada that bought a Fathom Green one new. He tried to purchase it from the local dealer but they didn't know anything about it, so he bought one from Central Chev-Olds in London, Ontario. Apparently that dealership moved a relatively large # of COPO Chevies (including the only 2 1970 COPO Novas not to be turned into Yenko Duece models). Pete Simpson owns 1 COPO Nova, plus a COPO Chevelle and a COPO Camaro. All of them were sold through Central Chev in London.

I read that Fran Preve said 20 COPO Chevelles came to Canada. I can vouch for 1 Daytona Yellow, 2 Frost Green, 1 Fathom Green (scrapped in the 1980s!), 1 Lemans Blue, 2 Cortez Silver, and apparently 3 Monaco Orange COPO Chevelles originally sold in Canada. Not bad for such a rare and obscure car (obscure until the 90s that is).

There isn't any one on this site or in this hobby that shouldn't be allowed because they don't muster up to what he feels is the criteria for being an enthusiast.

Dealer installed 427

1ss427

Really a dealer installed 427 car, well that would mean its not a copo then wouldn't it?

irongolf
Mar 1st, 05, 10:06 AM
How do you think they got the L72 motor for the passenger car?

1ss427
Mar 1st, 05, 11:56 AM
Any dealership could get a CE motor, which if you have a DEALERSHIP installed L-72 that is what motor you got, ONLY TRUE COPO CARS HAD NUMBERS MATCHING NON CE MOTORS INSTALLED AND THAT WAS DONE AT THE FACTORY NOT THE DEALERSHIP.

Therefore if your motor in your so called COPO is numbers matching than it must have been RESTAMPED IN INDIANA BY GREG.

irongolf
Mar 1st, 05, 1:43 PM
I don't actually deal with Greg Sir, I think you guys are right about him, or he just uses his paperwork for him and his buddies to either build real cars or fakes that no one can contest, I don't know which it is, and I don't care.

GOOD BYE! Whats with the change of tune about Greg?
It wasn't too long ago you where touting how he was the man, as to being able to confirm your COPO.

So what is in your car a numbers matching fake or a CE engine?

Keith Tedford
Mar 1st, 05, 5:31 PM
It is entirely possible for a COPO car to have a dealer installed CE engine. If the original engine blew up while under warranty, guess what GM installed? A CE engine. Our 396 Chevelle had a CE motor installed after the original grenaded from a dropped valve. The Chevelle in question in this thread has all the GM of Canada documentation. Pretty hard to argue with that. Our COPO Chevelle hasn't been on the road since 1977. I know of another one locally that hasn't been plated since about 1988. There are lots of cars around that don't go to shows because the owners can't be bothered listening to all the nit pickers. Any more, my wife and I would just as soon go for a nice drive and enjoy the cars.

alss
Mar 1st, 05, 7:06 PM
My COPO has a CE block in it as the original engine inhaled a valve, taking out the block and one cylinder head. I have the dealer repair order showing the POP stamp on top and instructions to "replace fitted block"..cool paperwork.

your just assuming i have a chip on my shoulder.
I'm just trying to get the truth out of you for once.
You stated before your car was a numbers matching copo with paperwork on the way from Greg at DPE?
And now your stating it is simply a big block car that had a dealership installed 427.... so does this dealership block have matching serial numbers on it for your car? and if so how did they get there since a replacement block would have a CE on it and NO serial numbers.

pretty simple question yet you take great care in NEVER giving a straight answer.

Listen 1ss427 AKA (angie) My history research on my car is not complete, and is really at this point based on the evidence boiling down to one of three scenarios, all of which are Big Block. I am not to interested in discussing possibilities even if it's down to three. Last time I was way premature on the issue and people didn't like me using COPO as a marketing approach. I still believe that you as well as others were too quick with the scam and crook words, no matter, you are not owed anything by me, and I am not stating anything factually about the car at this point.

So all I can say is you do have a large ceramic tile on your shoulders, and I am wondering why you are not busy with your show instead of harassing me. graemlins/sad.gif

You know the weird thing is when I got there in September I was sitting with my buds after a round and they were talking about some guy who predicting that Phuket was susceptable to title waves, we all just dismissed it, and then a few months later BAM, if you were on the beach and stared too long at the wave as it was forming going "whats that I don't know it's getting bigger" YOu stayed to long.
