: Custom Firewalls
feedphillipnow Apr 15th, 04, 7:07 PM I'm curious to who all has installed and made up a custom firewall. I love the look of the aluminum or thin guage steel firewalls. I know there can be quite a few curves that are nasty to get around. Windshield wiper motor and whatnot. I can probably make a good template with cardboard. Whats the best way to attach once its made? Bolts? Ive heard of people using some kind of metal adheisive, that doesnt sound all that great. Should the old firewall be cut away?
If anyone has good close up pictures it would make my day!

smittyocat Apr 16th, 04, 1:28 PM I mad e mine out of Aluminum. Look at the photos of it on my site.
Jblack Apr 16th, 04, 2:04 PM I "smoothed" mine. Basically I made a cardboard template that traced the outside profile and around the brake booster. Once I got the fit right I transfered it to a piece of sheet metal. Then I welded it in place. Filled all the seams with dura-glass and sanded smooth. Turned out really nice. No heater core, wiper motor, and the 500 hundred holes and dimples are gone! shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you a pic. It's sort of hard to see because it's painted black, but you'll get the idea. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
feedphillipnow Apr 16th, 04, 4:31 PM Hey Smitty, Are you not running the wiper motor anymore? I know the stock firewall kind of dips in a little bit, not sure, I think im going to leave it all and cut a hole in the aluminum, install that, then put the motor back on over the over, should look good. Depends on when I do this, with or without the engine in, obviously alot easier without. It looks real nice, it's bolted on or welded?
smittyocat Apr 16th, 04, 11:10 PM Im not running a wiper motor. Here in Arizona we dont get much rain and if I wanted to add thge motor back on later it wouldnt be that hard. I riveted mine on but you could used panel adhesive if you didnt want to drill into the firewall. I actually like the look of rivets over screws, but it is up to you.
three85stroker Apr 16th, 04, 11:25 PM My '72 is at the shop right now, they just finished smoothing out the firewall, as you can see in the pics on their website Rust to Rods (http://www.rusttorods.com/proj_detail.php?car_id=105) I'm going to be driving the car as much as possible so had them leave the wiper motor holes as well as braking and whatnot. I just thought it would be a lot easier to live with rather than a fully fabricated firewall. Either would have been an upgrade from what I started with graemlins/thumbsup.gif
feedphillipnow Apr 17th, 04, 12:51 PM Since the original firewall isnt perfectly straight It just seems like it would be really hard to get it to stay with any kind of adhesive, plus would have to clean the heck out of the old one, who wants that smile.gif I guess some kind of bolt on, and some welds in the inner fender area where it cant be seen. I like the look of all the ones Ive seen so far. I want to get started! It's project # 2 or 3 on my list :D

MAXX2 Apr 20th, 04, 9:45 AM Everyone will receive your emails this evening with prices and details.
We've been busy getting firewalls ready to ship, and spending 18 hours days between them and getting the '69 ready for the upcoming 2004 SCTA/BNI Season.
We've been working on building out website, just seems to go slow with everything on the agenda. The website will save time, and you will be able to scan all of our Custom Aluminum Products.

MAXX2 Apr 21st, 04, 1:24 AM Emails Sent!
Don't hesitate to email us with any and all questions.
Heading for the shower, some dinner, and off to bed, and looking forward (?????) to another 18 hour day tomorrow.
We love this hobby of ours, as do all of you, but sometimes I feel like I will wake up from a dream and realize that this racing obsession (We Call It "THE MONEY PIT"), will only be that.
We had no idea preparing for a full season of SCTA/BNI Racing was this time and price extensive. We feel very fortunate that we have a major sponsor, and 9 minor sponsors to help in the $$$s of the '69, otherwise, we would not be this close to finishing.
Sometime when you Team Members have an extra minute of so, post your racing experiences on the site.
Catch you later.

MAXX2 May 3rd, 04, 8:52 PM Team Members;
We were just informed by TC Member Jeff Woodward that the home phone number we gave you is incorrect.
It should be 702-898-6396.
The home number given out earlier was 702-898-6398, which showed "Disconnected", so Jeff called us on our cell phone. Since Judy retired from SBC/PAC BELL-TELESIS/NEVADA BELL in '91, and we get free home phone service as part of her retirement package, we knew something was wrong.
"Our Fault!!!!!"
"Sorry"
