A question has come up recently concerning 1967 Chevelles that have the 427 engine. Did the dealer install the 427 as an option. If so did the installed 427 have the same number matching the vehicle. Did the dealer change the ProtectoPlate. What other changes or information would be present to verify the engine change. I hope I got this in the right Forum. Any input would be greatly appreciated........Tks

The consesus of this board if I am not mistaken is that there were no SS427 Chevelles made on the factory assembly line in 1966 or 1967. So there would probably be no matching # cars for that. Now a dealer could install a 427 for you if you could find a dealer that would want to perform that.

I think they could have put some Impala SS-427 emblems on the car and over the years somebody would say it was factory.

I am sure there companies out there that can reproduce a build sheet, protecto-plate and vin-data plate just for an SS-427. Even restamp the block numbers but I don't know the legality of such a project and would not perform that.

This was actually much more common than many realize... But in a word.. NO., you would not have received a protecto plate, as a matter of fact... many times Warranty may have been void on the car if this was done... the engine would not have the vin... you would have an original dealer invoice or work order showing the work was done.. but that was about it. This is a very old and talked to death topic, so a search in our forums under 427 chevelle should yield the old discussions. ;)
