: Not a Chevelle... but a cool survivor nontheless
hoffbug Jul 17th, 04, 7:26 PM This car is all original with less than 1200 miles on it... It had factory 4.88 gears, radio delete, heater delete, a 425 horse 427, and a four speed...

Pvt.Cowboy Jul 17th, 04, 7:43 PM As a side note, does anyone know the application guide for the dual snorkel air cleaners found on those 427 engines that came on the 427/425 Biscayne? What other GM cars share that air cleaner? Is it a standard Corvette part number?
I ask because I want to find one to run on my '68 Chevelle 396 engine for driving around. I think they look just great. I'll save my original one for when the car is parked at a gathering.
Any help would be appreciated.
Chevy454 Jul 17th, 04, 7:57 PM That certainly is a cool car, Hoffbug! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Is the owner online?
djw Jul 17th, 04, 11:11 PM There were a bunch of those around "back in the day". Here's a picture of one I took back in 1970!

Chevy454 Jul 18th, 04, 11:27 AM Cool shot, Danny! E stock auto...what kinda times did you run? Still got the car, and if so, does it still see the track? What car are you flat-towing it with?
djw Jul 18th, 04, 11:05 PM Yeah...I only wish it was mine. :( I was just a spectator. I've got a whole webpage of cars from a trip to Dallas here. (http://ac3online.net/djw/70drags/70drags.html)
I think I'll scan all the photos I took and update the webpage. Some pretty neat old race cars in those photos.
Chevy454 Jul 18th, 04, 11:44 PM Cool pics! You're just a few hours away from us...in fact, I may have to run to Ft. Smith tomorrow.
Oh, you've got mail! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
ss3964spd Jul 19th, 04, 11:37 AM Cowboy,
The dual snorkle A/C on the 65/66 full size cars really is a nice unit. I have never seen one on a vette - probably due to hood clearence issues. I DO know those A/C's are very tough to find - in any condition. I also know if you find an original they command a long dollar.
'70, perhaps '71, Z28's used a dual snorkle A/C that is remarkably similar to the early unit. An original Z28 dual snorkle A/C is also expensive. However, the Z28 units are being reproduced and Gound Up has them. They have the tube to connect to the right side valve cover.
My '66 396/325 came stock with a single snorkle unit. Like you I wanted a better breathing, but stock looking, A/C for when I'm not showing the car. I opted for the repro Z28 unit. It comes with a chrome cover but I just use the cover from my single snorkle - it fits perfectly. You can see it in the link below. If ya'd like a better photo just let me know.
Regards,
Dan
Bill Pritchard Jul 19th, 04, 11:56 AM Tony,
Neat car, thanks for posting the picture. One question - is that original paint? I don't ever remember seeing that color on a 66 full size. Maybe it's just the way the picture turned out
ss3964spd Jul 19th, 04, 1:04 PM Bill,
I think that dude behind the car is wondering the same thing, and certainly not a color I've ever seen on any '66 either. Perhaps it's just the photo.

hoffbug Jul 19th, 04, 2:47 PM Its a digital camera so I think the color is close, if not right on... Sadly I had my resolution set low so the pics could load faster... One result of that is you cant read the sign in front of the car. :(
I believe that the owner claimed this car to be 100% factory original.
smittyocat Jul 19th, 04, 3:27 PM Cool Car I seem to remember one that use to race back in the day called "Bisquick" Cool car. There is a 66 Caprice for sale locally Im thinking about lookin at buckets console A/C with 396 for $1800 obo love those full size BB cars.
