Thought some of the board members would be interested in my latest acquisition. Here's a link to the Yenko site that gives a good description and a few as found picures.

   I remember reading all the CARS magazine tests of the Baldwin-Motion cars in the late 60's. Still have some of the magazines. I'll have to dig them out.

I just talked to my DAD he worked at Baldwin Motion 69-70, he said he helped do a few of the phase III projects. We have talked about it before but its always fun to hear him talk about that stuff. That and racing down Sunrise HWY

That's a great acquisition... But I have one question -- though maybe I read it wrong:

The car is the first Baldwin Motion SS 427 Chevelle sold and was a very well known car in the NY/CT area. It is the only 1967 Baldwin Motion SS 427 Chevelle in existence today.

There's a man in Moreno Valley CA that has (or had) a maroon-colored Baldwin Motion SS427 Chevelle that was a '67 model. I had seen it several times in the late '80s at more than a few cruise nights at Tuxie's Burgers in Riverside and Sunnymead Burgers in Moreno Valley. Though it was well taken care of, it wasn't restored.

Unless this is the same car, or I'm mistaking something, I do believe that there's another Baldwin Motion SS427 in existence.

Am I mistaking something here?

I can't speak about the particular car you may have seen; however; there are very likely hundreds or even thousands of cars that someone may claim to be a Baldwin Motion car. I wouldn't believe everything someone tells me or trust a car with emblems and or decals to be legit. How many have irrefutable original documents??

Sure, I guess that it could have been not genuine... I'm certain that it wasn't a 1967 Impala SS427 at least ;)

The only way that I'd ever be sure if I owned the only example of something in existence is if there was only one of them made. I suppose that must be the case with your Chevelle.

In speaking with Marty Schorr the other day, he felt in addition to being the first BM 427 Chevelle made it was also very likely the only '67 BM Chevelle as he did not recall another being built as well as the late delivery date of August 7th. I plan to speak with Joel Rosen this weekend and will see what he recalls and will post what I find out.

Wow! Sincere congratulations on your good fortune. I've always been a fan of Baldwin Motion Camaros and Chevelles myself. I'm jealous!

Don't forget to post those pics. Be nice to see the "before" shots.

WOW!
A '67 BM Chevelle in my own backyard!
To me, it's the "Holy Grail" of Chevelles. I remember lusting over the Baldwin cars growing up. The Chevelles were (and still are) my favorites.
I'd love to see it someday...

A great car but you have some serious work ahead of you to bring that one back! Wow! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

There's something I really like about this pic. A good professional shot of this compared with the coming restored result would be a perfect centerpiece to any restoration keepsake book you'd make:

What an unbelievable find! Sincere congratulations!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

My only question is who do you trust to do the resto? With a legitimate piece of muscle car history like this, just documenting/authenticating and restoring parts many of which likely aren't made anymore I would think would take years to do right.

A car like this deserves nothing but the very best restoration there is!!

Good luck! And congrats again!!

Outstanding graemlins/hurray.gif Thanks for the link to the story on the Yenko site - I hadn't seen it over there. I guess persistence really does pay off sometimes! All the best in returning it to its former glory. And I'd have to agree with everyone who's asking you to please bring it 'as-is' to SCR7 graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The photos on page 4 of the link to the Supercar registry shows 2 of the Chevelle, apparently on the BM lot, then two more saying, "Same car after some of Motions experimental mods----" Are the 3rd and 4th photo the same Marina Blue w/black top factory ordered SS but now with a lighter colored top and no SS badging on the grille - not even SS427 like the rear cove?

In any event, sounds like a great find with some significant historical value. Congratulations! graemlins/hurray.gif

Yes, all the pictures are of the same car. If you re-read the first post on the Yenko site it talks about the experimental tunnel ram and the dual 850's. By then the car was repainted a metal flake blue and the black vinyl top was changed to white. The car was running 10's and still being driven on the street in 1968. Perhaps not a big accomplishment today, but back then a 10 sec car on the street was a rare sight.

Any 10 second street car, even today, is a nice accomplishment. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
