I heard that Dan Blocker's 65 Z-16 Chevelle sold at the Mecum Rockford Auction this past weekend for a record $250,000 !!

We used to think these rare muscle cars could top the $100,000 mark soon........well , soon is today. Wonder what the only Z-16 converible is worth. Crazy times.

Dan Blocker? 'Hoss' from TVs 'Bonanza'?

I believe the car was owned (at least recently) by Terry Gunter. It was the car that was given or loaned to Dan Blocker when the Z-16's came out and some were given to celebs as a promotion.

I have read that Blocker owned the only ragtop Z-16 made and traded it back in because he hated the rough ride. Is this true or did the Magazine have it wrong? I have heard that the only Z-16 convertables whereabouts is unknown. I remember reading the article that showed a yellow with black top Convertable was it the Z-16?

Can anyone confirm if that is the price that the Z16 sold for at the Mecum Auction ? I tried to log in to the auction results but they haven't posted them yet.

I've been told that the car once presided in a collection in Ohio and is now in California. The car was purchased with its documentation from a dealer in the Detroit area in the 70's.

Doug Richmond bought the infamous Z-16 convertible as a pep car when he worked for GM. He drove the snot out of it for a year then sold it to an individual in Hazel Park, MI. He then purchased a 66 SS396 hardtop. I spoke to Doug last year after a time span of over 30 years to reminice about the car. He said he's been contacted many times thoughout the years by collectors who have offered him up to a quarter million dollars for the car in any condition. The car was not the traditional red, yellow, or black Z16 colors, it was a gold color inside and out. I don't remember the paint color name but I do remember what color it was.

How many z-28 convert's were made? Only one. It was built buy the engineers in the race division at GM to smooth over GM General Manager/Vice President of the board of directors, Pete Estes. It was known that he liked convertibles so they built him one in '68. It is green with white stripes and white deluxe interior, a '69 style fiberglass cowl hood with cross ram, high-lift cam, transistorized ingition and heavy duty clutch 4-speed. J56 corvette-style twin-pin disc brakes all around and 4.88:1 ratio 12 bolt rear. Rare non-power top and ultra-rare convertible rear window defogger. The car was on the cover of the winter 2002 issue of Muscle Car Review Special.

He doesn't remember the buyers name, all he remembers about the transaction was he was uncomfortable as the area he delivered the car to was less than nice.
