I have a rock chip in my windshield and one of the glass repair places here wanted $80 to fix it. Is that price about right or is that a rip off? They said if I went thru my insurance company it would cost more. I really don"t know because I have never had work like this done before. Thanks

Dont know about VA. but in Fla. the insurance co. has to replace the windshield without a deductable.
So go try and find the truck that rock came out of that broke your windshield.(I know, he wouldnt stop)Then call you Insurance co.
Just a thought?

I remember some posts on windshield replacements having the cost of a new glass at about $120, so a stone chip repair at $80 does not sound so good.

I can get a LOF glass including installation for $100 bucks, but that's on the side. I went to a glass shop and they wanted $125 for LOF including installation. I would say if it's the original glass and you want to keep it then I guess I would, but I think you can just buy a whole glass for $20-50 more if you know where to look. Too expensive around my city so, I have to go out of town. Good Luck

You guys have saved me some money , thanks again.I figured I would lose deductable on insurance claim but after reading your post I called and found out they pay for a repair and if that won"t fix the windshield I have to pay my deductable toward a new one. Bluefield is in the South Western part of the state. It is about 130 miles West of Roanoke VA. and about 100 miles East of Bristol Tenn. It is close to the West Virginia State line. If you ever come South on 77 and go thru East River mountain tunnel you would be close to our sister city of Bluefild W VA.

Call the State Patrol and ask them if it is legal to drive with a cracked windshield, which is what it is going to be eventually. If it is illegal, then you shouldn't have to pay a deductable on a windshield replacement.

The deductable really depends on what your state requires and what your insurance co has, AFAIK, you can choose no deductable here in Md, I have a $50 deductable on my policy for my drivers.

We've had good luck with windshield repairs - the glue they inject into the chip stops cracks from occurring and usually you can hardly see the stone chip. If your insurance company will pay for it, you might want to try it. You also can buy a kit for about ten or twenty bucks and do it yourself.

On the other hand, if it is in your line of vision, you might want to go for a replacement windshield.

Look, just do us a favor and find out if you need to pay a deductable, then if not and the chip in the glass is still too small for getting the insurace co. involved, then just get a hammer and make it bigger :D j/k.
