On a 69 chevelle 4sp without a console does the black retaining ring for the shifter bezel go under the metal tunnel?
If it does do I have to take the whole shifter and linkage off first?
Thanks for any help

Jerry
P.S. What is the best way to make the holes thru the carpet for the bezel screws?
What kind of screws should I use?

The black ring goes on TOP of the tunnel, and on top of the boot, under the carpet. The carpet kinda hooks into the tabs by the screw holes. Then the silver bezel goes over the carpet.

The shifter can stay in the car, not a problem. I just used some nice shiny interior screws I'd gotten at my local parts store for the bezel ring.

As for cutting the carpet, I'd make a small x where the hole needs to be.

Good luck!
