: '99 Honda CRV Radio Problems

My friend has a '99 Honda CRV with it's stock radio. Her radio had been kind of going out one day, it was faded and fuzzy sounding and the 'ST' on the display was fading in and out with the sound (ST for stereo). It's starting to do it again she says but this time it's been doing it for a week. Now she's wanting me to take a look and see if I can 'fix' it so she won't have to spend money and take her car in. I'll have to remove the dash, but what could be wrong? To me it sounds like maybe the antenna connection got lose for a bit that one day and fixed itself, but got really loose again. I'm not sure though. Any tips?

Taylor

are you sure she isnt listening to a weak station fading in and out? or does it do it with the strongest station or all of them?

Might make sure that the antenna has a good ground.

It sure sounds like a reception problem. As stated above, make sure the antenna lead is solidly connected at the stereo and at the antenna mast.

ahh, good advice above. also not all stereos are created equal, i have noticed that the stock radios in my hondas had weak reception. changing the head unit to one with a good tuner helped tremendously. if thats not an option and the antenna/lead checks out you might try installing an antenna booster.

I WORK at a local Honda dealer... You'll have to pull the radio out to make sure that the antenna connection is in tight (it's just a push-in connection). Most of the radio problems we get are those caused by kids feeding the CD player coins... We are not that near to any local towers and our reception here is good. Pulling that radio is/will be a PAIN in tha azz~ I'll ask my master tech about reception probs in the morn and let you know what you're up against.

chevelleguy (name???)

You have every right to have your own opinion about foreign vehicles, however Taylor was looking for assistance not a rude remark. It really doesn't matter if he was asking about a Chevelle, a Chevy, a Honda, or a Toaster Oven we are all here to help each other, not alienate one another.

Thanks.

I'm tired of these threads too. If you have a problem with your jap crap then take it to a site were people talk about jap crap. graemlins/angry.gif

The ignorance is strong in this post.

I've owned a couple of Hondas ('84 prelude and '93 prelude). Both never had strong reception until I went with an aftermarket head unit.

You might also want to make sure her ant. is going all the way up (if its a power unit). If not they are easy to replace with the right tools.

The only ignorance I see in this post is that some people do not see what this web site is for. This is a forum dedicated to the sharing of information about the chevelle , atleast thats the title of the forum and web site . If it isn't than we should all start talking about repairing are washer and dryers, and other personal matters. graemlins/hurray.gif

Thanks to all who have helped. I did not know where to go short of Honda racing sites for help, and just wanted to help my friend out so she wouldn't have to take her car in. Not to mention that in principle all antenna problems and connections are going to be essentially the same, so it's worth asking. Sorry for any 'inconveniences'.

Obviously some people on here don't realize what this website is about & for.

TC Rule #1: Help people who come here no matter what they're driving or asking a question about.

If you don't like what the post is about and/or don't want to discuss the topic...then don't click on it. Plain and simple.

Its not our job to moan/groan/move a Honda Q? in Chevelle Tech. That's the admin's job and RJ has let it go through with not moving it to another part of the BB.

Obviously Taylor wanted some input on a problem. I'm glad he got it on some of the posts in this thread...as that is what TC is all about (read Rule #1) graemlins/beers.gif

Most gas dryers aren't that hard to work on but hiring someone to fix them is expensive. Can buy a few extra Chevelle parts doing dryer work by yourself.

Obviously he has a Chevelle or he probablly wouldnt have posted here in the first place. I am sure he posted here because he was comfortable asking questions here and has RESPECT for your opinions. Treating people different because they have to drive a japaneese car is B.S. like someone commented if you dont like the title of the post dont read it, and if you have anything positive to contribute, keep your opinions to yourself. BTW ive got this VCR that eats tapes any suggestions? graemlins/clonk.gif
